New Pepsi Drink

The weather is hotting up and Japanese stores are full of summer products.
Weird Award Summer 2007 goes to the new ‘Pepsi Ice Cucumber’ drink.

Hurray - a cucumber-flavoured cola drink.
(Available for a limited time only in Japan)

I tried a bottle today.
It tastes like Sprite with a dose of Cool Mint Listerine.

I’ll stick to Volvic

It’ll never replace Midori.

So what? It tastes of nothing then?

not a cucumber fan

Just another entry in a loooonggg line of classics :stuck_out_tongue:

Not really.

Those names aren’t that strange for the Japanese market.
The only amuse English speakers.

The ice cucumber freaked out some of my Japanese friends.

On a hot summer day, nothing beats doogh, a yogurt drink with small cubes of cucumber and mint. Much like a lassi but less sweet and sometimes carbonated.

The carbonation comes if its been left unrefrigerated for a few days and its started to ferment.

In the traditional form it is much like Kefir that way, however there are now versions that have carbonated water added to the yogurt. I find the latter unpalatable.

Eeeww. I just threw up in my mouth a little bit.

Lack of alcohol?

I reread your posting and realized the first time I read it I assumed it was a (coca-) cola flavored drink with additional cucumber and mint flavoring added.

Here in Chicago only carbonated soft drinks (soda pop) with cola flavoring in them are referred to as a cola drink, usually called a “coke”.

If you asked for a “coke” or a cola and the restaurant didn’t carry Coca-cola they might ask if the brand Pepsi was ok
but they certainly wouldn’t confuse your request with requesting a lemon lime soda pop, root beer soda pop, orange soda pop, et cetera.

Somethings do get lost in translation. That’s why interpreters call themselves interpreters instead of translators. There’s usually culture to be dealt with.

No, unlike kifer, doogh does not have any alcohol (to my knowledge).

Ever have home made yogurt compared to the often more sour commercial stuff? It’s just different.

Well the Iranian bottled stuff does taste like carbonated sour milk with soft chunks in it.

Something must be significantly different in Japan, or they would get sued through the nose for that Coke bottle shaped bottle.

A favorite!

I tried that stuff whilst in Korea. If memory serves, the name accurately describes the flavour.

So, like Fresca, is what you’re saying.

I don’t remember it being carbonated though.

i bet that would go really well with that eel ice cream japanese folks like so much. someone has got to set them down and explain things to them.

I haven’t had my wife ever ask for eel ice cream before but she may not even know she is genetically predisposed to like it!

I’ll have to make her try it!

One time… while eating out at a nice little American style bistro we had a waiter bring her soy sauce for here rice without being asked.

:astonished:

We didn’t know what to say but… thank you.

The guy really meant well and was trying so hard.

He got a good tip anyway.

I didn’t have the heart to tell him how f’d up that was.

My wife tells me its an abomination to put soy sauce on rice… oh and that we don’t bath enough and we all look the same to her.
