I love the taste of Alka-Seltzer. I could drink the stuff all day but that would be bad.
Anyone have any ideas on how I could flavor water to taste like Alka-Seltzer?

Flydood…I think you might have finally gone completely daft on us. Alka-Selzer? EEEWWWW!!! ![]()
To make water that tastes like it, maybe find out what’s IN Alka-Selzer and try to imitate that. I’m sure that sodium bicarbonate is part of the ingredients. Maybe that and seltzer water. You can try that, then tell us all how it came out.

Here is a list of the ingredients, and how much is in each tablet:
Active Ingredients: Each Tablet Contains: Aspirin (325 mg), Citric Acid (1000 mg), Heat Treated Sodium Bicarbonate (1916 mg)
So there you go.
Or you could use the European method.
To make water taste like Alka-Seltzer:
Add Alka-Seltzer.

I knew I could count on the fine folks here for concise answers.
While the European method has it’s appeal it could be a bit expensive. Not to mention all that Aspirin would probably have long term negative health effects.
I’ve tried adding sodium bicarb to seltzer water but it’s not quite the same.
I need sodium bicarb, a dash of lemon juice and something else. Something bitter. Something that tastes like aspirin but isn’t.
Hmmmm.
Ashes would probably do it, but you might want to consider the sort of bitters that are used for cocktails, e.g. angostura bitters.
I wonder about you somtimes, FC. ![]()

Something along these lines might help. But it looks like the recommended dosage is one or two a day at most.
Hang on there! You want Indian Tonic Water, I bet! (The quinine tastes like aspirin to some people.) By George, you want a Gin and Tonic!

That’s exactly what I was going to say! Canada Dry tonic water and
some lemon juice (from that little plastic lemon) will probably do
you right. You even get the fizz-fizz (without the plop-plop!)

Yikes. Loving the taste of Alka Seltzer! And wanting to enjoy it often! Never thought I’d see the likes of it…
Only thing I can think of, is to carry a 3lb hammer…and when the urge to taste Alka Seltzer runs over you…just gently tap the top of your head, and shout, “NO!!!”
Hope this helps…

yep - was going to recommend quinine or caffeine for the bitter taste - that’s what they use in sensory panel.
However, I can’t TASTE bitter. About 10% of the human population can’t. We are “missing” the taste receptors for bitter. It makes for some weird flavors - when I drink coffee (which is why I DON’T drink coffee) all I can taste are the burnt flavors (pyrazines, etc.). Most beers taste sort of like “fuzzy water” to me.
I can, however, drink aspartame with no problems, cuz I don’t get the aftertaste most people complain about at all!

I hadn’t ever heard of quinine. Looks like it has the added bonus of treating malaria should Kalamazoo be a high risk area for it. http://www.drugs.com/mtm/quinine.html
It also is fluorescent in sunlight, oddly enough. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tonic_water

I’ve known this since I was born practically. My dad had reoccuring malaria that he got in WWII in the South Pacific. Whenever he got a bad cold or the flu, he’d go into the sweats and we’d have to get him 10grain quinine. You didn’t need a prescription for it, but when I was in high school they started requiring a signature for it because it was being used to “cut” something - I forget if it was heroin or cocaine…
Have you ever tried Perrier? That French water stuff? It tastes like Alka Seltzer to me…
And it comes in a few different flavors.
