Here are some photos of our long trip to Taos NM, from
which we’ve just returned. We stayed out on the mesa, well off the
grid, near the Rio Grande River Gorge Bridge.
I’m the geezer clutching the flute, the lovely woman who
accompanies me is the famous boxer, KOCrane.
Various friends, horses, dogs, and gorgeous scenery
too. Also Earth Houses, Hogans and Zendos…
the town of Truchas and the Plaza at Santa Fe.
Wow…genuine pop-top can and adobe walls. I’ve heard of it, but never seen it. The whole place looks so interesting.
‘Tis a privilege to be invited into Chiff-folks’ life & travels now and then.
Thanks!
Thank you. My friend, Ruthie, collected a good deal of money
after an accident and built, out on the mesa, a large
Navaho hogan out of huge logs. It looks like a huge
helmet–many of the photos are taken inside it or
on the porch. Ruth has three horses.
Her friend, Jez, lives in an Earth Ship, which is built
partly underground so as not to need heat in the winter.
This is further out on the mesa. Rocky dirt roads.
She has two horses. Some photos there.
There are several dogs, Bella, Frieda, and some other nameless
dogs.
The mesa is populated with aging hippies living in domes,
trailers, stockades, school busses. No electricity, many
solar panels, we truck in water.
Taos mountain appears across the mesa, sacred to the
Taos Indians.
The whole place is indescribably beautiful.
Thanks for sharing the pictures, Jim. I recognized the hogan shape from the inside spaces. Your photos make me a wee bit homesick for the many years that I spent in the Southwest, USA, that is. Just a bit of advice though, Jim. I see that you are wearing clip-on, pop-up sunglasses in several of the group photos. I wear them too, but my granddaughter informed me that they are definately “NOT COOL”. The grandkids make fun of my car, as well. It is a 94’ Buick Century, big enough to take all of them out to the old-folks cafeteria for dinner.
“PEDESTRIANS PROCEED WITH CAUTION”
…yes, they do, don’t they…
Nice pix. Liked the dog best, somehow.
Contextual advertisement is “Learn Hebrew online!”
The photos were taken mostly by Amy, the lovely young
woman who is plainly gaga about Frieda, the small black
dog. Her camera.
I miss this place already!
The Rio Grande, they’re in it in some pictures.
It’s about a thousand feet down from the bridge
to the river. People jump off it with parachutes,
sometimes without…
