Photos of a Trip to the Grand Canyon

In August, my son and I took the Amtrak train from Fullerton (near L.A.) California to Williams Junction in Arizona.

Then we took the Grand Canyon Railroad to the Grand Canyon. That was cool to ride in an old dome-top rail car across the desert to the canyon.

We both took photos, which I finally organized and put on the web. You can see them at http://www.beancurdturtle.com

They’re not the best pics, but I thought I would share them.

Here’s one sample:

That’s quite a hole in the ground!

Wife and I plan to visit it on our next trip to the USA, whenever that is, but the reasons for the timing of that visit belong in the rubber room .

cool pics. They look good to me.

Thanks, Daniel, for sharing the photos. I lived in northern Arizona for several years, and your photos bring back good memories. I miss the smell of sagebrush after an early morning rain. Here in Indiana we have the smell of new-mown hay, which is also nice, if you are not too allergic.

My only look at the Grand Canyon was from above it, on a very clear day, on a flight from Baltimore to Las Vegas. Amazing geographic vista.

It looks like that was a fun trip. I was there once long ago and I’ll never forget a certain moment when the fog began to lift and I realized the immensity of what I was seeing. I don’t know if I’d call it a mystical experience, but I was lifted out of the here and now in some sense.

I also enjoyed the pictures of your trip to Ireland which I remember you talking about earlier this year.

You sure it wasn’t mist-ical?
fog…
mist…

hehe…

had to work too hard for that didn’t I?

Thanks for the kind words.

It’s pretty stunning, that’s for sure. Only two other views caused me the same level of “holy cow-ness.”

One was the Great Wall in China:

The other was Canyon de Chelle in the Navaho Nation:

Those are breathtaking, Daniel! Thank you for sharing them

 Well, heck, I’ll go for mistical.

I, unlike you obviously!, am not too much of a traveler but I think it quite possible I might go to the Canyon de Chelle someday. I have heard that it is amazing, but that picture you showed is unlike anything I’ve seen before.
