My last free Saturday

Next week begins my new route time(evaluation) and six work days a week, so this was my last free Saturday. I decided to goof off and just do something fun. It was a dreary rainy day. I’ve always wanted to go here, so my mom, brother, sister-in-law and myself loaded up and went to Burke’s Garden.

Daggone that is some pretty farmland. No wonder it was G.W. Vanderbuilt’s first choice for his Biltmore House. I’ve read that the only way to get any of that land is to heir it or marry into it.

As icing on the cake, as we were getting there, we heard cannon fire booming and were able to catch this, right in the middle of the battle.

It was a fun day.

Nice, but aren’t you a little too close to that edge?

You are tapping my roots there Cow…
Beautiful.
Burkes Garden was a constantly evocative reference in my formative years.

and furthermore…
Tazewell County has a bluegrass fiddlers’ convention??

Yeah, you have kinfolk there bouts. I remember now, wasn’t it grandparents you’d visit there?

For me it was a case of something special being close to home and just never taking the time to go see. It was only about an hour’s drive to get there and it was worth the trip.
