music stores in the woodstock ny area ?

i am going to be heading down from the great north to woodstock ny this weekend. does anyone know of any good shops with a selection of whistles or other irish/celtic instruments ?

I was there about a year ago and it is really a disappointing downtown area. A lot of shops but no real instrument store. Homespun tapes is in Woodstock but I couldn’t find it and I do not know if they have a store or just office/studio and warehouse.

You will more likely to find music stores in Kingston or Saugerties (where Big Pink was)or go up to Catskil and Durham.

(not originally from Woodstock like a former C&F person was but from the other side of the Hudson-Historic Hyde Park and depressing Poughkeepsie)

i am coming from quebec, so anything north reasonably on the path, i would consider checking out.

Catskil and Durham are North of Woodstock(Durham has alot of Irish stuff)and you might be able to hit some places around Albany (I think Andy’s Front Hall and Celtic Treasures are in the general Albany area-check their web sites-there are links to them from the Chiff and Fipple internet vendor link page)

do they carry some decent whistles in stock usually?

Celtic Treasures is right on your way in Saratoga springs. Get off at exit 15, and head for downtown-- they’re right on the main street ( along with a LOT of other terrific shops, restaurants, etc). Andys is also sort of on your way, but they’re off the beaten path. Better selection of whistles at Treasures, but Andy’s has one of the best selections of sheet and recorded music anywhere. I don’t think they are open on Sundays, but I do think Treasures is.
Woodstock ain’t what it usta be ( the Festival wasn’t even really held very near the town) but there are some good shops and eating spots there. Very pretty countryside-- try the drive around the Ashokan reservoir ( which gave the tune Ashokan Farewell it’s name).
