ok, so, i’ve tried online retailers and i’m honestly not too pleased. i’m not going to bring up controversy surrounding a certain shop right now, but, you know. basically, i’m waiting on a whistle ordered online, and legitimately not expecting it anytime soon. anyway, i haven’t played the whistle in about six years. when i did, i only had the one. it died in a horiffic backpack incident. but that was when i still lived in massachusetts and sort of knew where to go to get a whistle in person. now, i’m in southern new hampshire (concord area, but manchester is accessible). i have NO idea where to find whistles here. i’ve tried google, yahoo, everyhting short of looking up every music store in concord and calling them to ask if they carry whistles and which ones. that would be far too much time eaten up (i’m a college student with a crazy schedule). so, basically what i’m asking is if anyone knows of retailers around me that sell whistles. i’ve started up with my flute again after a year’s break after 8 years of playing…and it’s done nothing but make me want a whistle again. so yeah. if anyone knows of anywhere, i would be so appreciative you have no idea. thanks in advance…
Go to a session at The Barley House, Main Street, Concord. Tuesday night, 7 o’clock. Ask for Claudia Altemus. She’s a lovely whistle player and great craic. Tell her Davey sent you… from Co Clare. And tell her I miss her…
I think Song of the Sea in Maine is good, or at least it was when I ordered from them. Fast and reliable. Not far from you.
Just a thought.
find them on the “where to buy” section of this site.

I have purchased from a couple of shops online with no problems…One shop I discovered by just doing a search myself was ‘Harp and Dragon’ …I phoned in my order I think because i had a couple of questions and spoke with Anne who I believe is one of, if not the owner. Their shop had the fastest delivery time; they must have mailed it the next day. I think they are in upstate New York and I received such fast service each time i ordered that I couldn’t not give them a recommendation.
I just ordered a Dixon Trad from Whistle and Drum on 10/2 … and received it Friday 10/6. Fast shipping and a very nice whistle!
I have to find online sources for whistles. No music store in my area carries whistles — stupid people!

A lot of towns have Irish or Celtic specialty shops. These often carry the less expensive whistles. I have seen Walton whistles for sale at such shops in Gatlinburg, TN, Aiken, SC and Dollywood.
If you want a cheap whistle (generation, feadog, walton, clare) you’ll find one of these in any musical instrument shop.
If you want a more expensive whistle look at http://www.angelfire.com/mo/sassafrassgrove/WhistleRoll/whistlelinks.html
There you’ll find links to all important whistlemakers. Maybe there’s one near to your place. Whistlemakers seem to have a tendency to trade from time to time and therefore often have many whistles you might want to try out, and often you can. You’ll also find whistles on the websites of a whistlemaker to be a lot cheaper than in a shop. Also on ebay you’ll find lots of whistles for sale (look under tinwhistles or irish whistles) at reasonable prices (now there’s an auction for a Copeland; you should compare the current price to that on the Copeland website).
Succes.
In Plymouth, MA (not the NH version), there is a store called Celtic Fire (www.celticfire.com) that has a small selection of whistles. It’s probably a 2-3 hour ride from Concord, NH.
I have never bought anything from this place, so I can’t vouch for it. However, it’s another place to consider.
