Buying Whistles Around CT

Hey folks,

Just curious if anyone knows of any whistle dealers or any places to try or even just buy whistles around Connecticut. My visit to the Sweetheart Flute Co. is postponed for a few weeks and I’m still just itching to buy or even find some place I can covet whistles in person. Birthday money finally gives me the luxury!

By all means, avail yourself to the fine new whistles coming out of the Sweet Shop at this time. Wherabouts in Ct are you located?

Tom D.

I’m in northeastern Connecticut, at Uconn. Just looking for something to keep the old disorder occupied while I wait for things to calm down for the good folks at the Sweet workshop. Hoping to find some places that have mid to high end whistles in stock just so I can see them in person. Pictures on the web only get my imagination going so far.

The only whistles I’ve found in any music shops I’ve been to are limited to Feadogs, Waltons, and Clarkes. Two friends recently had seperate trips to Ireland, both brought me back Feadogs, so I’m up to four in that regard. I figure I’ll just rattle off my (thus far) inexpensive collection and anyone that meanders through this thread can yell at me about their recommendations.

What I have:
1 Generic - Old wrap of tin with a wooden block, kind of awkwardly pressed together. (My dad purchased this for me as a toss away gift at Mystic Seaport. Who knew it’d spark a whole addiction?:))
4 Feadog D
1 Walton D
2 Clarke Meg D
1 Clarke Original D
1 Clarke Original C
1 Dixon PVC non-tunable D

What I’m planning on in the future:
Sweetheart Pro D (For my just past birthday)
Burke DBSBT D (Probably Merry Christmas to me)
Hoover Whitecap (considering all the Feadogs I have to gut for tubes)
Syn D/C set (Depending on how busy Erle is, I might just up and buy this to keep me busy)
Oak C (Don’t have many C’s, so I figure another cheapie’s on the list)

As far as I know you have seen what there is to see. And I’ve looked – trust me.

However, if you’re really looking, my other source is Song of the Sea and The Whistle Shop. Both have websites. For that matter, nearly every high end whistle can be located on the net.
