Molly Brannigan

I have been trying to get a recording ofthe Song Molly Brannigan but I am having no luck. I am looking for a recording with the lyrics sung. Anyone have one? I can give more specific details but right now I’m open to anything you guys have.

There’s a link with lyrics and midi.

How about these:

Brand, Oscar. Oscar Brand Sings for Adults, ABC Paramount ABC 388, LP (1961), trk# B.05

Dyer-Bennet, Richard. Richard Dyer-Bennet 1, Dyer-Bennet 1000, LP (1955), trk# A.02

Dunno if those have been CD’d. Look on Froogle (Google commerce search).

John McCormack sings it on a CD called My Wild Irish Rose. I have a box set LP of him with that and the Low Backed Car, Garden Where the Praties Grow, and so forth.

“There’s a hole in my heart, you could easy put a tomato through…” Do you play it and want to hear the words? Some of these trad airs are the product of genteel versifiers, like the Fairy Boy, for which Samuel Lover wrote words - dunno if he wrote the melody, that seems very trad to me.

Hello

Try Dick Hogan - The Wonders Of The World CD.

He sings a good version of it.

John Moran

check this out: http://www.irishmusicreview.com/Celtic%20Mouth%20Music.htm colm o’ donnell sings a great version.

And, of course, the tune is The Green Fields of America. On Tommy McCarthy’s cd Sporting Nell he refers to his version as Molly Brannigan–and lovely version it is.
