Does anybody know which cd that song is on? I really want it but can’t seem to find out…
I’ve been told I’d like Mary but I’ve never listened to her, and I love that song…

it’s on two albums, De Danann’s Anthem (Mary Black sings vocals on that song and a couple of others), and on the compilation Long Journey Home. The track timings are different so it appears they’re separate recordings of the piece.

Oh! I was searching ebay for Mary Black albums for the song; the Long Journey Home cd is the same one that has Sinéad O’Connor’s Skibereen, which I’ve been meaning to get forever. I found it on eBay for $7 and bought it (even though I shouldn’t have. Oh well.).

Long Journey Home is a great album, although you have to be aware that most of the music was written for the show. There’s some nice stuff by Elvis Costello and a real interesting piece that shows the Irish derivation of American folk music by placing Bard of Armagh and Strees of Laredo in a single cut.
Isn’t a version of the song on the Gangs of NY soundtrack? There is good version done by the Irish Tradition on their album The Times We’v Had (Andy O’Brien singing, I think). Also, Andy M. Steward did a nice version when his singing was still bearable on the album called “By the Hush” (which is what he calls the song: And it’s by the hush me boys/and that’s to hold your voice/and listen to poor Paddy’s narration [lamentation in most other versions]/I was by hunger pressed etc etc.) I know at least one more version that I can’t think of right nown (Karen Casey???).
Is she any relation to Karan Casey, who sang with Solas for four years?
Yes, they’re step-twins, I believe.
