Milwaukee Irish Festival or tune searching in Quebec?

I am thinking of going to Milwaukee, for the weekend, as I have relatives that live in a suburb. I want to know if anyone else is going, or has gone, and can tell me if it is worth the drive (10-11 hours) to get there from Southern Ontario. I do have relatives, so if all else fails, I can hang out with them…

But, the alternative is Trois Rivieres, and finding C&Fers or other sessions in either Montreal or Quebec City… Or Trois Rivieres…

Actually, I could do Trois Rivieres probably anyway. So Az, Brad, Moxy? Any of you free sometime after August 13? I mean, what would be a good week to come and visit? My sister is in Trois Rivieres, so I have a home base, but I would totally love to meet up with you or any C&Fers, even if it is just to listen to how much better than me you play!

It is a great festival, and I think worth the drive. The last few years a bunch of us from the board get together at a predetermined time to meet each other and sometimes drool over each other’s whistles if they are brought along. I’ll be going for sure on Sunday this year, and very likely Saturday as well. Unfortunately I’ll be out of town until Friday night so I won’t be going Thursday or Friday - but then again, since my flight gets back to Milwaukee early Friday evening, I may just head over there straight from the airport.

If you have the time and the money, there’s also the Summer School that goes for the week before the fest - Joannie Madden is teaching advanced whistle this year. I have never been fortunate to go to the school (and of course, this year I’m out of town that week :frowning: ) but some day I want to go.

So to sum up, YES it’s worth it!

I was looking at the summer school, but $240 (in “real” mony, to boot) is a lot. That would be for Joanie Madden and Mike Rafferty’s classes (although, I probably would go for the intermediate flute, so not Mike Rafferty).

If there were a piping class, I’d be there.

So, how about this, let’s all post times and locations to meet, and we can maybe get a few tunes in.

Please do let others know when you will be meeting. I tried to find the group last year and couldn’t.
