Milwaukee Irish Festival

Is anyone going?

I am thinking of going there, for the weekend, as I have relatives that live in a suburb. I want to know if anyone else is going, or has gone, and can tell me if it is worth the drive (10-11 hours) to get there from Southern Ontario. I do have relatives, so if all else fails, I can hang out with them…

But, the alternative is Trois Rivieres, and finding C&Fers or other sessions in either Montreal or Quebec City… Or Trois Rivieres… how cool would that be?

It’s the “Super Bowl” of Irish music and is well worth attending.

There’s no lack of things to do and see… and sessions abound.

So it’s fun?

…nope…
It’s a blast. :stuck_out_tongue: If you are in the neighborhood, go.

I’m definitely not at all in the neighborhood… but I could be… I am thinking of making this my “carrot-on-a-stick” for getting through this school term… ugh 3A…

Nico,

If you do by chance come up to Montreal PM me, and I could try ( with help of a few) to put together an out-of-towner session  it’ll be fun, and no 10 hr drive that’s for sure.

Complete with all the hype, too. Sorry, I can’t promise that you will witness any “wardrobe failures”.

Usually the best traditional music takes place in the gaeltacht pub. The rest is showbiz, guinness-pint shaped hats, bad (scottish) pipe bands, and rock n’reel acts.

Well, the truth of the matter is, that it’s a nice big Irish music festival with constant music, and tons of activity. Both Jim McGuire and Pat Cannady are pretty much correct with their observations.

The crowd pleasers will be Danu, Black 47, Hothouse Flowers and Seven Nations… but for anyone obsessed with Uilleann pipes, from what I can tell, only two will be present: Donnchadh Gouch of Danu, and Daragh de Bruin.

As usual, and my own personal gripe, is that there is never enough piping. However, on Saturday, our own meager Wisconsin Uilleann Pipers Club will have it’s 2 hour session again, so if any one on this forum is coming, let me know, so we can hook up.

But, that being said, it is a fun 4 day musical event, with enough for all tastes and I enjoy it, and even get to bring along our wolfhounds.

It looks like I am actually going to go this year, after an eight year hiatus.

I mostly want to meet up with The Pipers from Parts East (of MN that is).

Any after hours flat sessions by chance?

t

hmmmmm. Possibly.

Hey, Pat, so you might be persuaded to come back up to Milwaukee?

That depends on a lot of things, some of which are beyond my control.

As Elbogo said, we are going to have an uilleann piper’s session, most likely on Saturday early afternoon, haven’t got it in stone yet. As far as a flat session, keep us informed, might be something we could get highlighted somewhere. (Some of us are limited to concert D :stuck_out_tongue: )
Will keep Elbogo and others informed…

So, is this meeting of the pipers going to happen? I need to know before I book passage…today! :astonished:

Tommy… Saturday afternoon, UP session from 2:00 til 4:00, on the festival grounds behind the Lakefront Brewery Pub facing the water:

On the right, just below the sailing ship.
