I’m thinking of getting the madfortrad whistle tutorial, and have a couple of questions for those who’ve tried it.

Is there somewhere I could hear a sample of the style that Brian Finnegan teaches/plays on the tutorial? I couldn’t find anything on the site. Is there a cut from a Flook CD that’s a close example of the style he teaches? I don’t think I’d want to learn from the tutorial if it was a style I didn’t really like to listen to.

A few people have mentioned that he uses tonguing pretty liberally in the tutorial. How much tonguing does he play with? Some is fine with me. Does he explain when he tongues or when he thinks it’s appropriate to tongue (besides the infamous tongued triplets), or are you left to figure that out?

Any other comments on the tutorial would be appreciated, there really isn’t much in the archives, especially recently. I don’t have access to a local teacher, and I think this would be better than nothing for me. I’ve used some of the good online resources like Brother Steve’s site, but am looking for more.

Anyone have a used copy they’d like to sell?

There is quite a bit of tongue in the tutorial. (that sounded strange). I really think it’s a great tool. The tune selections are straight forward trad tunes such as; Morrisons, Lilting Banshee, Rolling in the Rye Grass etc. They’re presented with a nice close up video that you can pause, back-up, go forward as well as the standard notation for each song. I learned a lot from the CD. It’s a great way to get 12 or so tunes under your belt.
