Got this one for christmas. Lots of tunes to learn. You get the dots and a video alongside, so can attempt to learn by ear and check when stuck. Well worth the money. But having some troubles with the text referring to using index finger for E and F# in triplets. Would appreciate it if any one else on this journey would pm me.
Some whistles play F# if you leave the middle finger down, and lift the index finger. Done rapidly this gives a triple effect.
Some whistles play a G instead. but try it anyway, I’ll bet nobody notices!
Check it out on a tuner to find out what yours does.
Learning these techniques makes for quicker playing, and also goes a little way to explaining how Mr Finnegan seems to ‘do the impossible’ with whistles.
A triplet is three notes in the space of two eighth notes or one quarter note. I use my index finger on the first two notes of the triplet (E and F#) and my middle finger on the third note. There is a nice change of key to the relative minor in the second part (see Reading Music section).
Still mystified. Text refers to The Lilting Banshee. The dots show no triplets and I don’t hear them in the video. There occur repeated 3 e’s but not squashed into the space of two eigth notes.
I was considering getting this. It isn’t just a beginner’s tutor, right? Does he cover any Flook tunes?
There is an advanced section with lots of tunes. Each with a video. Not sure about the Flook tunes. There doesn’t appear to be an index to everything.
