Mack Hoover wooden low G

Has anyone here played or does anyone own a Mack Hoover wooden low G whistle? Having come to the low whistle via the Native flute, the idea of a wooden low whistle intrigues me.

I own a Hoover low G in apple wood. Mine is totally wooden, including the mouthpiece. The whistle is a treasure, from a fine friend. It is a rather soft whistle in the low octave, with just a hint of chiff. It plays beautifully, and it has a feel like no other.

You really cannot go wrong with a Hoover.

Best.

I have one.

It’s a lovely thing, and a very good player, with a tone that both focused and sweet.

So I email Mack last night thinking just to get a few questions out of the way to help me start thinking about when and if I should buy one, ie. whats the wait time, whats the difference between this and that…etc. I get an email back almost instantaneously saying that he has one available that he could send out tomorrow, and that it’s been discounted as it hasn’t moved yet. So I’m like, instant gratification and a lower price?! WhOA, can’t turn that down! SOo I’ve got a low G in applewood on the way, why do I feel so guilty?

your guilt will change to joy when it arrives…my hoover wooden low g is one of the finest whistles i’ve ever played. it has a range of tones that is quite remarkable. you made a great decision!

Discontinued? Now I gotta have one! There’s just something cool about owning something that is no longer available.

You may want to check my post alittle closer, I said “Discounted” not “Discontinued”, close though  . To my understanding, the wooden low G’s are actually Mack Hoovers newest line of whistles.

I haven’t been around much in recent months. I’ve been much too busy working with my son in his new machine shop business. But, finally, we have moved into the modern era and got us one of them fancy internet DSL connections so I can actually check in once in a while.

Anyway, back to the subject. I actually have two of Mack’s low G whistles. One is beech ( if I remember right) with a black delrin head and the other is black locust with matching locust head. They are both terrific whistles. While they have slightly different voices they are both very good and have a “woody” sound. They are medium loud with strong low ends but they really hit their stride in the second octave where they just sing. These are keepers.

My bad, I read that wrong.

I have two and love them both. The Applewood/Walnut combo is really lovely.
