Hi team, am putting this up for a non chiff friend who is looking for an Olwell flute, preferably keyed.
Based on the time I requested a flute for a student, so many folks were so helpful, I hope this might work too!
If anyone knows of an Olwell to sell, please email me at leslharker at hotmail dot com and I’ll put you in touch with said flute player. He is not a student and has only got one flute which is about to fall apart.
David Levine has a very nice cocuswood keyed Olwell for sale. I’ve heard David playing it live this summer, and it’s a cracker if you need a keyed flute. http://www.thesession.org/discussions/display/22944
Otherwise on http://www.woodenflute.com/public/forsale there is a keyed Sam Murray, 3 years old, for only 1600 euros, which is just as good if not better than an Olwell soundwise if you’re after a wild “O’Grada” sound
I don’t know if it is the players or the flute, but people playing Murrays seem to have a wilder, edgier, rawer, ballsier tone than folks puffing on Olwells. As we already know, it’s probably the player more than the flute, Michael Clarkson for instance would prob sound the same on an Olwell as he does on his Murray & Tara Diamond would prob sound the same on a Murray I suppose. Both Sam and Pat are making quality instruments
