I see the Irish Flute Store has an Olwell on sale for $599. Wonder if more experienced members can tell me why a flute from such a renowned maker is selling for a price way below ones from very good, but not such highly regarded makers.
I don’t see it. Got a link?
there is the bamboos
that he sold recently
(look in sold, not for sale)
Sorry, it seems to have been removed since yesterday and is not in the sold section. I thought it was described as a rosewood model with some repaired cracks in the foot section…unless I was dreaming. Someone tell me I wasn’t.
i saw it the other day as well–my take on it was because it had no slide and because it was used. either it has sold, or it was mislabeled.
Hello all,
It was a slideless rosewood model with some cosmetic issues and some small, repaired cracks. It’s sold. Lovely player. ![]()
Best,
Doc
My slideless rosewood Olwell is one of those flutes you’ll remove from my cold, dead hands. My teacher, who worked in Patrick’s shop for awhile, has said that these flutes (and mine in particular) are gems. Honestly, if I had to pick between my rosewood Olwell and my boxwood with slide, I’d probably pick the rosewood. And that’s saying something.
If someone got one of these for 600 bucks, that person ought to thank his lucky stars. I thank my lucky stars that I got one for 700 a few years ago.
I heard Josh Dukes playing his wife’s rosewood slideless Olwell and it was lovely (of course, Josh sounds lovely playing a pool cue, so …
). In fact, IIRC he sold me his boxwood with slide to fund a rosewood of his own.
Wheels within wheels! Congratulations and much happiness to the buyer of the “Doc’s” one; Olwell flutes are special indeed.
