Kudos to David Power for opening his home, hospitality, piping wit and wisdom. ![]()
The day started early with reedmaking 101 in David’s basement. We rubbed elbows and fought over 2 stanley knives. We each embarked upon our own reed venture sharing both knowledge and ignorance were appropriate. We drank stout, listened to some fine fiddle and Pipe Music including a new cd not yet relaeased. POWERful Stuff. David oversaw , providing practical advise and tips on the reedmaking process. I helped by throwing a monkey wrench at David every time he strayed form the strict practices of reedmaking COOKBOOK. ![]()
Micheal commented that he could see the crew at work through the basemnent window on his way to the front door. There we were, all huddled around the work bench, sanding, cutting, scraping, and hammering. Soon our toes began to curl upward and you could hear whistles of merriment. It was downright scary to the point of which we had to turn off the Ennis’ Fairy Story for fear of getting carried away. Our voices became scratchy and took on elftones.
After about 4 hours of intensive toy making. …I mean reedmaking, David invited us upstairs for sandwich sandwiches and more stout. Donuts washed down with stout is probably the best thing for you..and …..It’s YUMMY!
David thereafter picked up the Taylor-Esque Style pipes and warmed us up for a mini-pipe-session. These Pipes are currently being auctioned on Ebay and I say they’ll be woth it to the purchaser. The drone and chanter sounded beatiful. I and the others in the room did not detect 20 cents of sharpness. I believe there well in concert pitch.
Each Piper was granted permission to start up a tune so the rest of us could chime in. Some tunes included
Morning Thrush
Buck of Oranmore
Kerry jig/ Ballintore fancy
Jolly Tinker
Frahers
Garden of Daisies
Fermoy lasses
And now the results are; The following awards have been handed down by the Grand Pupa
