Hi everyone, my names scott, i am 16. I had my first lesson on the uilleann pipes today, from uilliam. im living near kirriemuir, with a practice set that uilliam thinks is an early froment with brass windcap, cheers
Howdy, and welcome. Nice that you’re starting at 16!
Welcome Scott. Nice to read you are starting out on the pipes. Uilliam won’t lead you astray. Keep at 'em. ![]()
Hi Scott,
The golden rule:
For every minute spent on this forum, spend 60 minutes practising.
so the Seamus advice is
7 years listening
7 years learning
7 years playing
7 years on a wait list
and
7 years not wasted on the board ![]()
Welcome, Scott! Are there many other pipers your age in Scotland? I only know one out here on the West Coast, she’s 16 also.
Justine
i dont know of any other uilleann pipers in Scotland of my age but there is a 13 year old boy and 15 year old girl in glasgow.
Hi Scott,
Welcome to the uilleann piping world. Keep up the good work!
…
Hey Justine,
I have a student here in LA 11 years old, soaking it all up nicely. It’s great to see.
Patrick.
That’s awesome that so many young people are taking up the pipes. Keep at it y’all…I wish I would have stuck with it when I was 16 instead of giving up and having to come back to it again at my advanced age.

You’re a spring chicken, and that’s a fact. ![]()

duuh , Master Smith, could you clear my ignorance and tell me what’s a spring chicken? Is it a seasonal dish?
Yes, Justine’s a seasonal dish.
Spring chicken, in my meaning, is a young one, youthful, not old.

Oh dear. I was really making a joke about temperament, but I guess what I wrote might be understood another way. Sorry!

Justine that would be great. He is in the beginners class(doh)I think Terry Moylan is doing it but not sure..Anyways there won’t be many tall black haired teenagers talking with an Angus accent milling around, probably looking a bit lost with it all.Great stuff.I hope ye enjoy the week. How is your set coming along?

PS are ye doing a class yersel? or are ye just there as the chaperone?

My set’s playing fine, no real complaints. Now if only I was practicing more…
I’ll be taking classes, too, as well as acting as the chaperone. We’ll see how it goes.
I had a great time and learned a lot when I went 2 years ago, so I’m sure I’ll have the same experience again. All the pipers are so nice it’s easy to meet people, so I’m sure Scott will have a great time too.

Thanks for the compliment, Joseph…
You’re welcome Justine. You are not an old fart. You are neither old, nor a fart. ![]()
I’m not old either, but I am … uh, well… let me move on, shall I? ![]()
