keyless flute on ebay

I saw this on ebay. Any idea what it might be?

Hey Dow,

I believe the flute is made is Pakistan. :frowning: But, from other reports it may be the only playable flute from Pakistan.

The following is from the Hobgoblin’s Website:

GR2123 Glenluce Pratten style D Flute
made from African blackwood, slide head, long middle joint. Made in Pakistan. Complete with case.
Price: $ 265.00 US Dollars

There was a seller on Ebay selling these made in Rosewood for about $100 including shipping to the U.S.

I’ve heard they have fairly good intonation, but are fairly soft voiced.

Keep Makin Music!

I don’t know if a Paki Flute would have a lined head, but that is the most likely choice. Could be a Wooden Seery he also uses yellow hemp for the joints but I highly doubt that.

Yup, that’s what The Music Room sell as a “Gael Westport”. Plastic headjoint, blackwood body.

As new, the body has cork lapped tenons. Now, oddly enough, one of the first things that got replaced on mine was the top tenon… got rid of the cork and re-lapped it with dental floss.

Looking at the photos on eBay I’d say that the cork is still there but black twine or cotton has been added to tighten the joint at the bottom. Probably left the flute assembled for so long that the cork’s fubar’d.

Not a bad ‘student’ flute, an easy blower with a breathy tone. Narrow body, Big tone-holes!

I do like this bit… “This is a quality instrument hence the starting bid of £50”

Obviously has no idea about a quality flute.

Or what ivory looks like…
