Can anyone identify the key and make of the whistle played by Julie Fowlis beginning at about 1:30 of this video?
looks like a Chieftain tunable in Bb
Yes, then again, Ronan Browne plays the pipes, and it looks to be his usual ‘B’ set, he might well have a Bb chanter as well.
Agree on the tunable Chieftain bit though ![]()
I took a Bb whistle and played along, so must be Bb. There is also what looks like a Generation Bb.
Fair enough, at least we agreed om the whistle ![]()
Yes, definitely a Bb whistle, as Hans said.
If Julie Fowlis and Jenna Reid are in a video and you can’t keep your eyes off of the Chiftain Bb, you just might be a “whistle pig”! ![]()

There’s a whistle in that video?
I’ll have to watch it again. Must’ve missed it.

Didn’t watch the video but can say there already was a thread here on Julie’s whistles and she answered herself about the whistles she played - it was an A Chieftain as far as remember along with her Abell in Eb and so on.
That was quite a few years ago. Almost certainly she’s acquired more whistles since then.
Sure, as was the video from Transatlantic Sessions - 2009. Julie posted here in mid 2008 about her whistles when she mentioned the Transatlantic Sessions. The whistle in the video is a Chieftain AFAIK.
I have seen her playing Chieftains, Abells as well as what I think is a Cillian O’Briain. I am sure she plays others as well.
