Newbie question: what whistle is being played in this video?

I wonder if it’s possible for someone to tell me the make and key of the whistle being played in this clip. I’m a real beginner so all I can say is it’s higher than my D.

Curious to know since watching this was the first time I realised where that sound was actually coming from.

Thanks!

Carla,

It looks like it’s a Feadog, but I only can tell by the pictures I’ve seen.
Feadog owners could confirm that.

Pascal.

Looks like the standard brass Feadog D whistle to me.

David

Yep, I agree: standard brass Feadog D whistle, played at the upper end of its range, which is why it sounds higher than yours.

Lovely stuff, thank you all!

Yeap, it looks just like my brass Feadog D

Except the song is in the key of C.

Donna

pretty sure it is feadog, but there is the possibility of it being Walton.

Kind of looks like a Waltons to me, but could be a Feadog too. I remember seeing that video a while back on PBS. Very nice.

I just watched it on PBS earlier today. I believe it is a Walton’s C. It looks exactly like the one here on my desk.

After playing the video in the fullscreen mode, it is indeed a Walton (brass body with a green mouthpiece).
I should have known for I own two myself…

Heh. Confusion reigns  Whichever it is, it’s somehow satisfying to see him sitting there surrounded by all these ridiculously expensive instruments, playing what is (from what I read) one of two pretty inexpensive makes…

Yeah, it is one of two very inexpensive isntruments, funny eh?! That just goes to show everyone how well a cheapie can sound when played by an experienced player. I do like the way he played it, good breath control.
