Ok guys here’s a test. This is a clip of McGoldrick playing a whistle, but what type of whistle is it? I think it sounds amazing, but then anything he plays tends to do so. Here’s the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3LBfRjZcmjo&mode=related&search=
let me know what you guys think.
That was the best pic I could grab of the whistle, and it doesn’t have that distinctive Overton look, where the mouthpiece/head area is narrower than the body (which you can see here http://www.overton.de/GRAFIK/relativities.jpg )
As to the key, the last note of the tune sounds like F to me, and since that’s the bell note of the whistle, that’s my guess That’s bolstered by the fact that Phil says on his website that Mr McGoldrick uses the Kerry Pro low F.
i had a feeling that it was a kerry F, but it doesn’t quite sound like the clips on the web. Plus if you look at the hole spacing it looks different than the photos on the kerry site for his F (based on the video clips of his F). So i’m sure i’m probably wrong, but i think it might be something different. But i’m almost positive that its in the key of F.
I am completly positive that it is an F whistle he ends with all his fingers down and the only whistle that ca nplay in F with all the holes closed is an F whistle.
Sounds like those children’s discussions when one says “YOU DON’T KNOW THAT!”, then the other “YES, I KNOW, BUT I’M NOT SAYING!”, then the other says to provoke Mr. Oracle “I DOUBT THAT YOU KNOW! I DARE YOU TO SAY IT!”
