I have a piper friend visiting Japan at the moment and he is hoping to get in touch with pipers there.
Can Japanese pipers PM me with your email and phone number so that I can pass it on to him please.
Thank you,
Patrick.

The guy who makes S.Z.B.E. whistles appears to be a piper.
I seem to remember AN PIOBAIRE running an article on piping in Japan
and the first ever Japan Tioniol!
(approx may-june 2004). try back issues!
What make of pipes is he playing?
Kenna… only joking
He probably doesn’t have them with him. He plays a Mark van Daal set.
Patrick.
What make of pipes is he playing?
I’d guess Alan Ginsberg. Mind you it does look a tad like Paraic MacMathuna’s Nick Adams machine too… Kevin Thompson maybe…

I’ve played with Australian piper Brendan Weightman several times in Tokyo:
The 2004 Japan Tionol’s pictures are still avaible here. You will have the confirmation that Matsusaka-san is playing a Ginsberg set, and you will see among distinguished members Tsuruhashi-san, who wrote the article in An Piobaire.
We still hope having a second Japan Tionol one day… This year maybe.
Great photos. I hope your next tionol is a fun and successful one. ![]()
I enjoyed (ski desu) the photos of the Osaka Tionol. I noticed that most of the people are fairly young. Are the UPs starting to get more popular in Japan (Nihon)?
It was great to know there are UP players here in Japan!
I’m a brazilian obsessed with ITM, but play mostly the whistle and have just started with the flute. I’m seriously considering buying a half-set and it is good to know that there are already players around that I could cry for help ![]()
If there is any other C&F member from Japan reading this, please contact me.
Thanks,
Romulo.

Where are you located? There are very small number of active pipers here in Japan.
I can let you get in touch with them.
I’m in TOKYo.
Also, Innerhand is one of a couple of people who own Boisvert pipes. You’ll be able to check it out aiding in your decision on which maker to go with.
I live in Gunma prefecture, Ota city.
Thanks everybody for the help. If just there was some Boisvert set for sale right now… ![]()
You could always email him to see if he doesn’t have a repossessed set. Here’s the address.
Thanks again Joseph ![]()
You’re very welcome. Be forewarned, he is a very busy fellow lately, so don’t be too alarmed if he doesn’t get back to you right away. But he will eventually. It seems that waiting is pretty much par for the course in the Uilleann scheme of things. ![]()
