I know there are pipers in Japan. I will be in Tokyo for about a week in early-mid October this year (3 weeks in total for Japan holiday). I would love to know if there are any regular sessions in town were pipers are welcome.
PM me if there is anything on as any excuse to bring my stick (wife permitting) would be great. I’m no gun piper by any means, but am always up for some craic. It would also be nice to find out about Tokyo and other parts of Japan from the locals, so to speak.
Romulo Malta lives in Japan. I think he just started piping…also plays whistle and flute. Mukade is also in Japan. You might also check with Hatao. He’s a serious flute player who would likely know the scene.
I am playing SSPs and border pipes now, so I can’t be of much help.
The Japan Uilleann Pipers Club site is here>> www.jupc.org
It is all in Japanese.
Send a message to Asha on Chiff.
I haven’t seen him around in a while, but I’m sure he is still reading the forums.
He runs the JUPC site and is in contact with many pipers in Japan.
Oh yes, still a beginner here with a little less than 2 years.
Tokyo is the place to be to find everything you want. There are lots of sessions for all tastes, though I probably couldn’t guide you at the mentioned period (I live around 2 hours and half from Tokyo and go there only occasionally), but could give you the contact info of some players that live over there. There are two nice guys (pipers) - Uchino and Sakata that could help you. They told me they read the threads here occasionally though I don’t think they post.
Fall is a nice season to come. You should go to Kyoto region as well to watch the vegetation with the fall colors and if you want to see a bit more of what’s still preserved of Japanese culture. There is also a well-known ITM scene there and I heard there are more than 30 irish pubs
Just to let you know anyone who may be tempted to have a browse around the JUPC site dont make the mistake I did.
I had a look out if interest but most is in Japanese except the links at the top ,which are in english,so I clicked on the forum link to see what I thought to be an english forum, but instead its just a dodgy adult site link!!!
I just clicked on the Forum link, and it took me to the … forums. No problem.
True, the “English Forum” seems to be populated entirely by p*rn spam. But that’s just a matter of maintenance. It’s not an adult site link.
Since mukade is listed as one of the administrators, maybe he can just clear things out and start afresh. This could be a useful place for Japanese and non-Japanese pipers to interact.
Well the maintainence certainly needs more work considering the most hits any of the other forums have had is 21 ,where the "english forum"has had over 14’000 hits.
Yes, I’m running JUPC website.
Of course it’s not a dangerous site, but I must apologize to all the pipers who are interested in our website for less maintenance.
The forum was temporary deleted.
I understand we have to update the site, with English, without spam.
A first Japanese pipemaker Ken Matsusaka is based on Kyoto. http://szbe.net/
