Interesting Ebay Listing - O'Mealy Chanter

Hi I had a look on Ebay as is my wont and found this O’Mealy Chanter (the listing is available to Ebay US).

What I found interesting was the info that there was a lot of uilleann parts (45+) going to be put up on Ebay - there looks to be a 3/4 set with ribbon keywork amongst the future items for sale.

and also what seems to be a 3/4 size (parlor pipes) of highland pipes. Interesting…

The O’Mealy chanter has a big chunk missing out of it.

What a pity! I spoke with the seller and he said the lot came from a house clearance. The chanter would still be nice to have as a collector piece but a feel that it is way beyond the realms of repair.

What a shame, it would have made a great story if the chanter had been playable. at 385mm long it would have been a fine sounding O’ Mealy C# chanter

Hi madfortrad

It is interesting looking closely at the stuff there. The 3/4 set actually is a full set - the bass reg is there as well as well as the plate for mounting it to the stock

There is a further set of regs there, but the tenor has no keys.

It looks like drones for a set of small/border pipes next to the parlour pipe drones sjcavy mentioned.

Including the O’Mealy, there is only 3 chanters, that I can see, none of them highland/small/border. The chanter top next to the parlour drones looks like it should go with the O’Mealy IMO.

The bits I would like to get a better look at, are the twin tube arrangement, and the thing with the key (they are at the back).

There is also some dead elephant in the back ground. Looks like a reamer and part turned ‘blank’ in the foreground. Amature maker?

So you’re bidding on it, right? :tomato:

wow, what an interesting pile of stuff!

Not just one of them - there are two of them now.

More than 200 GBP… :open_mouth: what to do with a chanter in this condition?

the other one looks better and has at least some historic value

But it looks to have ivory. Probably why the sale is limited to the UK.

The damaged O’Mealy went for £620 :open_mouth: :astonished: :boggle:

I see there’s an O’Mealy bellows and canvas bag up now by the same guy. He sure came across a treasure trove! Here too, only Uk shipping prices are posted.

Hi reedmasters

Thanks for the heads up.

The second O’Mealy chanter went for £921 ($1470).

Did it go to a Chiffer? - if so how about a sound file of it being played.
