Just a interest-gathering post - if Boise hosted a session in the August 30th-Sept 2nd time frame, who would be interested in attending?
This does NOT mean it’s official, just a hypothesis… ![]()

My wife and I would.
I’m a “possible.”
Susan
I certainly would.
Another comment - the only irish players I know of in Boise are me (only whistle), Johnnie (only whistle, as far as I know) and Paul & Barb (Whistle, clarinet, bodhran, am I missing anything?). Possibly my boyfriend on guitar. So if people have instruments other than whistle we will need them!
I’ll be heading off to a BIG Celtic Fest in Grand Junction Colorado in September. There’s a great session there, and of course, Mack Hoover will be there selling whistles and playing as well.
If anyone’s interested in carpooling from SLC to the fest and back, and perhaps going in on a hotel room or two while there (probably in the same hotel where we’ll play the session on Saturday night) let me know and we can start working on this.
I was able to attend last year, and I think there might be a chance to get free tickets to some if not all who are able to make it out to play music with Mack at the Irish cultural tent.
Again, just let me know…
Brian~
Hey! Usurping my thread for your own schemes is bad enough, but you didn’t even say if you’ll come to Boise! =)
Hey Beth,
I’d LOVE to come to Boise, but my concern is that with the celtic fest also occuring that month (Mack hasn’t sent me the exact dates yet, so I still don’t know for sure when) I hate to commit to coming up to see you guys, and find out I have to be on the OTHER side of Utah that weekend too! You see my dilema!
LOL
So to answer your question, YES! i would love to come up, and I will, but I also need to make sure I don’t double book, as it were…
B~
Well, the only reason I chose that date was because Labor Day is Monday and poeple might have more time to travel. Let me know as soon as you find out about the dates of the other one. We’ll move the Boise one if necessary!
P.S.
Sean, if you’re able to make it out, I could check on the status of my ‘babies’!
And also make sure you’re happy with them!
B~
I’m afraid I’d have to be a “no” on that one, Beth. School will be starting up, my house will (finally) be going up, and whatever time I have to spare will be devoted to chasing deer around in hopes of getting some groceries in the fridge!
OK, Paul and I are getting together this Sunday to brainstorm about a Boise Session.
The Grand Junction Celtic Festival is Sept 21-22nd, and I intend to go to that if all goes well.
Brian - that being said, will we see you in Boise? You could carpool with Susan…

(craic addict)
After visiting with family on the 24th, it’s looking like we’re going to do a family camping trip on Labor Day - I think you’d better count me out for Boise that weekend. Brian - how long does it take you to drive to Grand Junction? Do you go through Vernal or Price?
Susan
OK, So here’s what I’ve gleaned from all this so far:
August 30 - Sept. 2 in Boise (this is over Labor Day weekend correct??)
And then off to Grand Junction for the Celtic Fest there Sept. 20 - 22. Their site can be found here:
It’s billed as being predominantly Scottish in nature, but if last year was any guide, the Irish had a STRONG showing too.
I am happy to offer my vehicle/indepth-knowledge-of-the-road-all-the-way-to-Grand-Junction-and-back for any would-be carpoolers. It’s about a four hour drive give or take depending on stops for lunch/random fossil digging/potty breaks/and any chance encounters with rabid gorillas on the road (extremely rare, but known to happen!)
To answer your question Susan, I prefer 6 through Price as the canyons and scenery are far prettier to me than the road through Vernal. Also, I’ve driven it enough to have discovered a fair number of the speed traps along the route! (knock VERY hard on wood!!)
So, who’s with me lads? (and Lassies too!!)

Possibly, we don’t know yet. The big planning session (heh) is this sunday. Hey Bri, ask Stephanie, she said she lived 2 hrs from Boise right?
So, who’s with me lads? (and Lassies too!!)
Me me me! Assuming I can get enough time off work, but I don’t see that as a HUGE problem. I plan to ask my boss in midaugust.
Yeah,
Steph lives somewhere outside of Twin Falls, and I think she says it takes her just about three hours or so into SLC. So that would put her 2-3 hours out of Boise. I have her phone number floating around here SOMEWHERE, so keep bugging me, and I’ll fire it off your way! I know she loves playing this stuff as much as I do.
Please let me know if there’s any assistance I can offer in the planning stages, and I’ll do my best. But most of all, let us know what you come up with!!

Haha! Brian said lassies! That’s my word!
atb, Martin (London in body, SLC in spirit)
Ah, how I wish, how I wish. Once again, daily life intervenes with my fun.
Hey Martin, start saving your pennies. If we do these things long enough you just might be able to make it to one someday!
By the way, did you all notice how Martin defined “craic” in that thread? Very good. We might have to make you an honorary RMB for that, Martin. hee hee ![]()
Tom
Tom - I am hereby giving you advance notice that in late summer or early fall of 2003, I will be holding a session in Bellevue Washington, and YOU MUST COME ![]()
Mind if I totally sidetrack this thread for a moment?
It’s 11:12 pm local time, and I should be asleep. But I can’t sleep.
See, I was out at my property filling little holes with water (for a soil drainage test–the final hurdle before I can start building). Today having been unusually busy, it was dark by the time I got out there, and I sort of, um, fell in the ditch while carrying two five-gallon buckets full of water, rather forcefully popping my left ankle in a direction I’m pretty sure God did not intend for it to go.
To make a long story short, I did eventually end up getting the job done, but now my ankle hurts so bad I can’t sleep. And I’m really torqued off about it. The craic is NOT mighty in Tom’s house. ![]()
There, do you all feel sorry for me now? I’ll probably delete this post tomorrow and let you all get on with your plans. Just had to get that off my chest.
So, Beth, if I’m healed up by September 2003, I might make it out. ![]()
[2 minutes later] OK, I just listened to Brian, Joe, and I playing Monaghan/Rolling wave. Life is good again. “And thus Sir Thomas was saved from almost certain self-pity.”
