i am going through very frustrating times.
i started playing the pipes more than 3 years ago.
i have placed an order for drones, waited almost a year and a half to hear from the maker that we wont be able to make them for me.
i am thrown again in to the vast unknown territories of ordering and waiting… years. sad thing is that while waiting there were a few second hand offers i refused because of my original order…
can anyone advise?
maybe theres a set of drones lying somewhere unplayed… ?
I just received my drones from Nick Whitmer and they are very nice looking and sound very rich, too. The wait was not long, and he is a great guy to deal with.
I ordered my drones from Nick Whitmer in early January 2005 and received them in late April 2005. I’m very happy with them. The have a nice round and balanced sound. Nick uses cane reeds.
I’ve since gone back to Nick for regulators, which I’m also very happy with (the bass reg is currently being made). Next year I hope to ask him to make me a chanter to complete the set.
If you decide to go with Nick, I recommend the compact bass drone. It makes the pipes easier to store and transport. I can put mine in a 30" case without removing the bass drone slide section.
