I have a recording of a church service on a CD. I would like to copy only the music portions, but the entire service is all on one track.
Does anyone know how to do this?
Thanks,
Paulsdad

I’ve done that exact thing LOTS of times! Just read the entire track into Audacity (a free audio editor) and then select different portions of it and export to a .wav file. What I do then is import the multiple wav files into iTunes and burn a CD from there. This takes a lot of memory, so make sure you’ve got space. Feel free to PM for more info…

In Audacity, cntrl B is the code to insert a label at the position of the cursor. You can leave the label unidentified or add a name. If you mark the start and an end points of all the music sections with labels, you can then use the ‘export multiple’ command (under the File menu) to do the whole thing at once. If you don’t want to get the talky bits, you can delete those sections before you export, while you’re labelling the music. IMO, this is the faster way to go than exporting everything manually, but I found the names of the commands un-intuitive, so it took me a while to figure this out.
If you do name your labels and you’re exporting into a format (ie, mp3) that incorporates metatdata, Audacity can use the labels as track names for the new files, can give them sequential numbers, or it can combine a number with an arbitrary prefix you provide.
thanks, that’s a very cool solution, just edited a ‘Kitchen Sessions’ programme accordingly.
