On the topic of copying whistle tracks.

I’m trying to copy a few WAV files to CD using Windows Media Player and it puts a loud pop between tracks that I know was not in any of the masters. Any suggestions?

Thank you,
Erik

That happens with my burner sometimes if I try to burn too quickly. Try slowing down the burn, but also check the individual wav files to make sure the interference didn’t develop when the wavs were formed.

Erik,
Are you recording these to play as data on a computer or music CD in a stereo?
I’m told there’s a slight difference in CD’s designed for music. They cost a bit more than data CD’s. Try switching to those.

Another thing to check. Are you recording the CD one file/tune at a time or as a group in a single session? I had the ‘pops’ when there wasn’t enough hard disk space on my computer to cache the entire source CD and was forced to switch several times between source and target CD to copy the media.

Why “Windows Media Player”? If Easy CD Creator came with your burner, it contains applications designed for just what you’re doing. It’s worked for me pretty well.

Also, it has applications for putting your audio tapes and LPs onto CD.

Thanks everyone for your help.

I’m using CD-R media (700MB/80min). I’m not certain whether they are principally for data or sound.

I am copying them as a batch, but I’ve got plenty of Swap drive space and memory - I’ll double check, though.

I’m using Windows Media Player because it does it and I didn’t want to put another application on my computer that didn’t need to be there. Perhaps I’ll try the other burning software, though.

Thanks again for your suggestions - I’ll give them a try!

I used the software that came with the CD drive (Nero) and it worked! Thanks Marguerite!

Hooray! I probably had Easy CD Creator for a year before I poked around in it to see what it would do. What a surprise!

Happy ripping!

Yeah, and I was also able to burn at 2x the speed and get better quality. I guess there’s reason to go with specialized hardware, eh?

Thanks again,
Erik
