How many play or who have Andreas Rogge Pipes

Who plays Andreas Rogge Germany Uilleann Pipes.

I have Rogge lefthanded full set C snakewood pipes B Plumwood chanter D ebony chanter and new D Plumwood chanter ready end of Jan 2004.

Robbie Hannon has ebony B chanter and Trevor Strewart fullset D ebony.
My first pipe teacher Tom Clarke has C snakewood chanter and pupils who learned from Tom who play Rogge sets is
Cormac buzz Ó Briain has lefthanded full set B ebony Gerry full set Blackwood with snakewood mainstock/Chanter top and B snakewood, George Eggleston has a lefthanded full C set snakewood and D ebony chanter and Anthony plays B ebony Chanter. One more person from Toms class I can’t remember his name has a D ebony full set and a B chanter.

All the best

Hm. I do.
I play a D full set in ebony/brass and a B chanter in cocobolo/nickel silver.
Sean Og Potts plays a B set. Peter Browne plays a D set. Martin Nolan plays Rogge pipes. See www.uilleann-pipes.de for more references. Oh, and between 50-70% of all German pipers (I guess close to 100) play his pipes, too (this is a guess).

I soon will be.

Peter Browne also has a C# chanter from Andreas but do not know the maker of the drones and regs.

All the Best

I soon will be, too. Just sent off my order a week ago for a new half set in snakewood. I’m excited!!!

I play a D set. I love it. Sometimes I just stare longingly at its gleaming metal-and-wood features…

Be sure to check out the new super-duper D set on his website! It has an E reg in a novel configuration as well as a highA tenor drone.

Question: I am unable to get a 3rd octave D on my chanter. I think I have tried every finger combo under the sun. Any trouble getting this note on a Rogge chanter? Do I need a key? Maybe it is just this reed.

t

I’ve got a D chanter from him coming soon…sadlly, delivery has been put off until January…

There is a list on the Andreas Rogge web site of notable owners.

Good for you- You’ll be outplaying all of us AGAIN!!!

Fel

That’s a neat (and crazy!) looking set! I wonder whose it is…

I’ve always liked the look (and sound) of his work; he’d be among my top choices if i was looking for a new set. That cocobolo/boxwood/brass full set at the top of his catalogue page never fails to make me drool.

Be seeing you,

eric.

I saw this “super” set when I last visited Andreas’ workshop. Of course it was an order from the U.S.! A bit too much for my taste, though. The set is very compact, the drones are much shorter than mine for example. Andreas says, he nowadays likes to build his sets in a more compact fashion.

I play a Rogge concert D set (ebony), reeded to play quietly and sweetly.

My set is by Andreas. It’s a concert set.

Boyd

Yeah, that’s the one that made me order from him.

The photo below is a Rogge D ebony chanter with C nat key Andreas made and got at the Belfast Tionol March 1999.

In July 2000 I sent the chanter to Andreas to put F nat and G# keys on. When I collected the chanter at the Cultra Tionol September 2000 I was told by Andreas that chanter I sent was not left handed but for right handed player. So he had to make a new chanter as I was left handed which he made in two months.

I wonder who is playing this chanter now. I can remember that the G note was a bit sharp so I flatten the hole with red wax

One of my [two] Rogge D chanters looks like that alright but has no key.

Come to think of it, I must get round to selling it since I don’t use it now…thought I’d need a spare, but that hasn’t been the case.

[I’m always amazed at the guys here who have 3 or 4 sets … how do they get to know each set fully? Must have bags of time. ]

Just changed my C chanter reed with the tenor reed.

Now that the tenor reed is in chanter the chanter is souning better than ever.

The chanter reed now plays in the tenor reg and now all the notes on the regs are in tune with baritone /bass regs.

Fergus

how did you record your clip on the Clips & Snips tune archive??

Did you say you went to Tom Clarke’s class in the past?

Boyd

Boyd

I used sound recorder on window XP and plugged a Microphone into one of the holes from the soundcard back of computer.

Yes I did go to Tom Clarke’s Classes in Belfast April 1994, first using Brendan O’Hare. When I heard Tom playing this Snakewood C chanter (A Rogge), drone/reg ebony (A Ginsberg) I had to have Rogge pipes.

I first met Andreas at the Belfast Tionol March 1997 where it had his 3/4 set B plumwood brass art ivory. Máire Ní Gráda and Andreas both played on the B set and Geoff Wooff on this Harrington C set at the recital which I have recorded.

The intrepid should try some cane or elder reeds in Rogge drones, and compare the sound to what the brass/plastic ones Andreas makes give.
