In what pitches did Rogge make pipes for these pipers? Brian McNamara never made any reference to owning pipes by Andreas and as far as I know Gay McKeon only has a concert pitch Cillian o Briain set and a Coyne C body with a Gallagher chanter?
I noticed this as I was thinking of ordering a C set from Andreas. It will take around 5 years on a list, but im only 16, and I wonder if a 16 year old can realistically raise money to the tune of 7000 euro?

O’Flynn has scads of chanters. I’m not sure if he does actually have the replica of the Ennis Coyne, though Andreas did make such a replica while he had the Ennis Coyne. At one time Andreas made a B chanter for O’Flynn, but I am not sure if it was delivered or not (I was around when O’Flynn was test-driving it, there were some minor tweaks required as I recall).
(Many top-notch players have, over the years, obtained chanters from many makers - an instructive question may be which chanters they actually choose to play in public. Sometimes this also has to do with a piper’s ability to make or obtain reeds for particular chanters.)

This may be the only Rogge kit Brian has.
Until recently Nollaig McCarthy played a Rogge chanter with his Hunter D set, but I believe he’s now playing a Joe Kennedy chanter.
I reckon it’s a matter of priorities… if it were a car, I’ll bet some way to find that 7K would be found! And a decent set of pipes holds value a lot better than a car. 7K over 5 years is only about 4 euro a day.
Plenty of 16-year-olds smoke, unfortunately (though of course it is illegal for them to buy cigarettes…). That’s well over 4 euro per day right there! Or how many nights at the pub… ?
Kieran O’Malley plays a 3/4 Rogge set in C. He also has a Rogge full set in D.
Peter Browne’s set is at least 3/4 in D- I brought Peter’s tenor and baritone regs over to Andreas earlier this year for spring repairs. I never saw the set to see if there is also a bass reg.
Sean Potts sold his Peter Hunter lignum vitae D some time back, I think, and he has a Rogge D set.
I thought maybe he took the D set to billh for some work on reg springs and suchlike…but maybe it was his B set that he took.
He had his D set with him when he and I were fishing in Mayo a few years back.
He said when he got the Rogge chanter he had to finger it differently to the Hunter for some notes…that prob applies to any chanter change, just saying it cos I remember it.
A 16 year old has a lot more time to raise any amount of money than (say) a 46yr old…and no mortgage, family, car etc…so START SAVING!!!

Right, it was both sets. I had briefly forgotten about the D set (a nice looking 3/4 set in ebony+sterling).
The flat steel springs[*] in both sets had broken fairly badly but because they were attached with screws rather than rivets they were pretty easy to replace

I hear nothing but fabulous things about Rogge’s work.
But, if you’re in Dublin why not avail yourself of one of the great pipemakers in Ireland or England? I would consider it a great blessing to be close to my pipe maker.
I’m not a reedmaker, so whenever I need a reed my chanter (or whatever it is) is off to the post office. This is a pain in the caboose. I can’t imagine fooling with international posting for such trivialities.
You might at least ask around your domestic pipers and makers to be sure someone will be inclined and able to reed the rascal for you when the reed that was happy in Germany decides it hates Ireland.
I understand your reasoning Doc but the truth is that there ARE NO GOOD FLAT SET MAKERS CURRENTLY LIVING IN IRELAND.
Froment and Woofe havegon to France(and would have long waiting lists anyway) and Cillian O Briain does not make flat sets, and that this point is not even taking orders for CP pipes. Bill Haneman told me that his waiting list in now 5 years long. I am probably going to order from Rogge or possibly Gallagher, as I am awaiting a CP half set from Seth.
