Hi all,
There are a bunch of posts asking “what does X play?” or “who made X’s set?” scattered throughout the forum, but I’m wondering whether it might be worthwhile starting a more comprehensive listing here.
So, with that in mind, could we put together a list of recorded pipers, along with: the maker(s) of their set(s); the wood(s) and other materials used; the chanter key(s) and bore(s); and any other relevant information (e.g. do they make their own reeds? do the sets have interesting provenance? pillar-mounted or ring keys? etc)?
Of course it’s the always more to do with the player than the set, but my personal (and not insubstantial!) wishlist (in no particular order) would be to know more about the sets played by: Paddy Keenan, Liam O’Flynn, Mick O’Brien, John McSherry, Jarlath Henderson, Michael McGoldrick, Eliot Grasso, Cillian Vallely, Davy Spillane, Jerry O’Sullivan, Brendan Ring, Brian McNamara, Ronan Browne, Robbie Hannan, Díarmaid Moynihan, David Power, Todd Denman, Eamonn Dillon, Marco Pollier, Sylvain Barou, Tiarnan O’Duinnchinn, Brendan Wade, Kieran O’Hare, Eoin Dillon, Mick Coyne, Donnchadh Gough, Flaithrí Neff, Sean Gavin, Gay McKeon, Sean McKeon, Barry Kerr, Padraig McGovern, Michael Cooney, Emett Gill, Neil Martin, Martin McCormack, Louise Mulcahy, John O’Brien, Dermot Hyde, Dickie Deegan, Eoin O’Riabhaigh, Jimmy O’Brien-Moran, Joe McKenna, Martin Nolan, Joe McHugh, Loic Blejean, Mikie Smyth, Ciaran O’Dongaile, Neil Mulligan, Ronan Le Bars, Sean Potts, Michael Horgan, Tommy Keane, and Hanz Araki.
