Hi. I’m attempting to get an idea of the average size of flutes and their parts. I would like to ask you nice people, if you could, tell me the key your flute is in, what kind of foot (if any) it has, how many parts it breaks down to, how long and how big around those parts are, and if it has keys
Hi Lark,
The flute I just built, is a RS Pratten.
The head joint/ barrel is 250 mm
the middle section is 270 mm not counting the tenons
the foot is 135 mm
It has no keys.
The inner diameter is from 19 mm to 14 mm.
Hope this helps.
Jon

I’m playing a Chris Wilkes blackwood keyless in the key of D. It has a C foot and breaks down into four parts. It is a big beautiful flute capable of a powerful sound. I’m learning how to drive it - great craic
Lark, you asked this question on PURPOSE to make me take out my flute and put it together! When I haven’t played the poor thing for months! Sneaky!
Ormiston 5 piece keyless, C foot, 26 and a quarter inches. I can’t believe my tape measure doesn’t have metric on it…
oops, forgot the piece measurements…
head joint with tuning slide 8 and 1/8"
second piece 2 and 3/4" (this is the tuning slide chamber)
third piece 8 and 1/4" (first 3 finger holes)
fourth piece 6" (last 3 finger holes)
foot joint 5 and 5/8"
