I’m having a custom 3 section Flute swab made up and would like to have it made long enough for both D flute as well as Bb/C flutes. However I don’t have a low flute at the moment. Can anyone offer up an endcap to footjoint length? Not asking for any bore profile secrets here
Just a question, Loren, I don’t understand why you would need a full length cleaning rod unless you had a one piece flute (like a bamboo one). Due to the bore contour I would think that the patch would be loose in half of it and tight neat the end. So is this rod going to be like one of the old 3 piece wooden shot gun cleaning rods?
It will be a Flute Flag http://home.nethere.net/roger45/index.htm (Flute are actually listed on a different page, but the conical bore flute flag actually looks like the piccolo flag, having a much thinner rod) not a typical swab. These work quite well: you can use them with the flute completely assembled since the material wraps around the thin rod while at the foot end of the flute and then extends on the way up towards the headjoint. The only reason I’m considering having a custom 3 piece version is that the longest length of the current version can be several inches too long to fit in a Cavallero roll etc.
