And why should we pay attention in spelling and writing class? So we don’t grow up to look like spammers.

I don’t think I’d be half as fluent in Hindi or Ukrainian.

“Ladies may have a fit upstairs”

  • a sign in a clothing store some years ago

Ummmm, y’all…? Any legit company is going to have customer service messages in reasonably fluent English…this looks like a poor attempt at info theft!

Beware of and report messages like this that ask for info…I got one in perfect english asking me to verify my Wlels-Fargo account number a few months ago—but I don’t have an account with them. A call to Wells-Fargo confirmed that it was not legit but a Pfishing attempt.

Be very, very wary out there-y.

At last they do not call their toilets “Ladies and Gentlemen”.

You should always be polite to toilets, just in case…

nice of them to provide a space for such things.

How many will fit upstairs?

At Outback, they’re called “Blokes” and “Sheilas” :stuck_out_tongue:

Err.. Bruce and shiela

I can’t ever recall seeing any dunny called “Blokes” or “Sheilas” in Australia let alone India. I have not been to the Ukraine.

And I reckon there aren’t any dunnies in the USA called “Guys” and “Chicks” although I admit to the suspicion that your anna kronystic stereotyping of another country may be somewhat nourished by your local experience.

It’s hardly my stereotyping, as I am not the one who came up with the idea. Outback is a restaurant here in the US (in case you weren’t aware of that), and yes, they do use quite a few stereotypical props in order to sell their steaks and other entrees. I, actually, found it to be rather silly, which is why I brought it up

Wow, just about got that one past me.

Every theme restaurant seems to feel the need to name its
restrooms such that they match the theme. “Western” saloons
might have “Steeds” and “Mares”, a neo-speakeasy might have
“Guys” and “Dolls”.

I have seen “Guys” and “Chicks” but I can’t remember where.
It was probably in the 80’s before “Chicks” became impossibly
gauche.

There was a fashion, in the 1980s I think it was, for pubs in the South of England to have toilets archly labelled.

“Plugs” “Sockets”
“Snow Whites” “Dwarves”
“Mares” “Stallions”
“Beauties” “Beasts”

These whimsies tend to get carried off to foreign parts at the tail end of their existence. You may like to speculate where it came from and where it went to. And don’t tell me the pub landlords thought it up on their own. I certainly don’t believe that!

Is this an American thing for the most part? It does seem to be done far too often here. I, for one, do not like to be referred to as a “mare” but then what do I know? :stuck_out_tongue: The whole concept is really stupid, in my opinion anyway (which apparently I have far too many of  )

I freely admit that one was lost on me.
