Has anyone tried the Howard Brass D whistle?

I would like some input on this whistle from anyone that has tried it.

Brian showed me one of his new whistles six weeks ago.

He didn’t like what I told him.

Azalin ordered one about 18 months ago and returned it for a refund. He was shocked at the way it sounded and thought there was something wrong with it. I thought it was probably supposed to sound the way it did, i.e. the antidote to a modern chiffless wonder.

I tried it for about 5 minutes. I thought it sounded like the piccolo playing on a scratchy old Michael Coleman recording. Dug out the tape and listened to the cut in question and Az agreed with this assessment. Also bit clog-prone, I seem to recall.

Lovely looking thing, though. I’d like to try one again for longer - I’ve got a lot better at assessing whistles since then.

Yes, I’ve played one
long enough to get a pretty good
impression–at least of the one I
played. It’s very well made.
I thought it sounded good, strong,
loud enough too, but not
as good as less expensive brass high
Ds, most notably the Sindt. I had
no problem with clogging. It would
be nice to have.

Thanks for the input.
