opinions on this whistle

Would anyone care to offer an opinion of the Dixon tunable D, aluminum body, ABS head, brass tuning slide model, as listed on whistleanddrum? (Or to point me to the elusive thread where it has been discussed before?) I had my hands on one once, but only for a minute. My first impression was WOW! but I do wonder what the collective wisdom of the board says. The WOW! was post my owning a T Dixon Trad high D. That’s a nice whistle. The aluminum seemed heavier and…cleaner? in sound.

hmmm, maybe nobody has one?

:poke:

I believe that’s the same whistle as their “Solid brass” one, except in aluminum. I could be wrong about that, as I don’t remember everything from when I was looking into a lot of dixons. I at least know they offer that one you linked to in both brass and aluminum.

I recommend looking up the item number on the tony dixon website, and searching it here. Some time ago I brought up lots of old posts on this same whistle, although I was looking at the brass one. As I recall, the reviews on here were pretty good for the most part.

However, if you played it and it got that kind of reaction out of you, it shouldn’t matter what the board says. If you instantly liked it so much in such a short span of time, it’s obvious that it’s a whistle you would enjoy, and I’d say go for it, regardless of whether or not everyone here loves it, or hates it. You’re the one who will be playing it, you already know you like it, so it would be silly to let a review on here change your opinion of it in one way or the other.

I totally agree! Go for it!

I’ve played one, and I think they’re quite good. I have two friends who play in the 3 Dollar Band, and it’s their whistle of choice.

True. I’m also hoping the guy who owns it will let me try it again!

thanks, all. ff
