I just wanted to drop a note to the group about the great service I’ve received from Copeland Woodwinds and in particular from Jim Rementer.
About a year ago, I bought a used Copeland C whistle from someone on the list. I thought the intonation was not quite right so I sent it back to Copeland in May for some rework and told them I’d be happy to pay for the repair. They told me that they would do the rework for free because the instrument was under warranty even though I wasn’t the original owner.
Unfortunately, the instrument was too far out of spec to adjust to good intonation so they offered to build me a new whistle for free, the only catch being that since they do runs of a particular tuning in batches, it may be a few months before they got around to building new C whistles.
Finally, some time in November or so, they started building brass C whistles, and I received a brand new instrument. I had some problems with the tuning of the octaves on this instrument and returned it for some adjustment. Jim and his craftsmen agreed with me about the intonation problem and decided to send me yet another brand new brass C whistle which arrived yesterday. This one is extremely good, with consistent tone and intonation across both octaves. I’m also able to swap the fipple with my brass Copeland D to get a different tone quality.
It took a little longer than I had hoped, and Jim had to put up with more than a few frantic emails from me asking when it would be ready, but in the end, they really came through, far beyond the call of duty. Thank you Jim!
Cheers,
