Got a Bleazey

Doc Jones and I worked out a trade, and I became the proud owner of a boxwood keyless Bleazey flute. What a fun flute! Easy to play, very responsive and great finish. Even my wife had positive things to say, and anyone who’s ready my Philistine thread knows that this is high praise. Little bitty tone holes, yet a good strong tone…hmmm. Not as “dark” as a Grinter or Copley, but nonetheless well worth the money spent. I also appreciate the finger spacing, which is easier on the mitts. Wheeeee…Doc has another for sale, and if it’s anything like this one, it would be a great deal for whoever buys it.
happily noodling away,
Dave

Congratulations on your new flute! Patrick is at the very least a good fellow, and a great one to do business with.

So you ended up buying it. never played that one, but it sounds a lot like my old Ironwood Bleazey.

I still love my boxwood Bleazey. It’s not a great flute for that growly Irish dance-music sound, but then I play a lot besides Irish dance music. It has a mellow, buttery sound that’s good for airs, English dance music, parlor music, etc. And it’s still the easiest flute for me to play, although the Noy might supplant it one of these days.

Congrats on the new flute, Dave! I looked at the picture of that one and thought it’d be a fun flute to own, but decided that SWMBO might not like me buying another flute right now. Maybe in a few years, after I’ve got a good handle on the GLP.

By the way, I like the self portrait:

boxwood is yummy

I have a keyless in yew .. advertised as quiet . I’ve only been playing a few months and thought quiet sounded like a good idea to start with. In fact, I’m beginning to get a fair amount of volume out of it now - though not reliably. It’s also ligther than others that I’ve tried.

I suspect that it is reasonably easy to play, I can get 2 octaves out of it, I still can’t do that with the old (german) keyed flute that I have, though I’m gradually getting there.

Now I have to aim at “the dark side”, I think I’m playing “nice”
