I’m arriving in Boston tomorrow afternoon, and I’ll be there through the weekend. I was wondering if there’s any recommendations on things to check out that are pipes or ITM related.
Maybe a good spot to catch some tunes? Or a music store? Are there any old pipes on display in a museum?
Try slipping them under your coat when no one’s looking

Its simpler than that - hide until closing time and all the staff have gone home then collect the desired instruments and then you only have to break out. This was apparently how the Harrington and OT Turned Reid NSP’s were stolen from the Horniman Museum back in the late 70’s
Horniman museum is close to where I live and was trying to get my hands on the instrument to measure it. The Curator, Jean Jenkins, made it clear that no one was allowed near it as it was old, fragile and incomplete and in any case would be of no use as it was an out of date pattern and would not be a good example to make a copy of. It was stolen several months after this along with a very ornate set of Northumbrian Small Pipes made on a Holtzapffel (or similar) OT Lathe by Robert Reid.
The “job” was thought to be a contract one as the thief took an instrument for himself as well - a set of Pakistani made set of GHB’s
Information on how the instruments were stolen came from JJ’s successor who was more amenable to requests for access to the instruments but too late for the Harrington.
I only ever saw the set in its case and did not take any photos of it I’m sorry to say however had I known how lax security was…
