Where are the sessions in Boston?

I am travelling to Boston last two weeks in August. I wonder where I might be advised to visit while there to hear some Uilleann Pipe Sessions?

Hi George,
I don’t know if this’ll help but it’ll get you started,

Good luck on the pipes when you get them by the way.

Cheers, Mac

I’m certain that you’ll get a couple of good suggestions, as their are a few regulars here from that area, but I would at least investigate “The Burren” in Somerville (just outside of Boston). They have a website where you can see what’s going on.

All the Best, Tom

Hi George,

I belong to BOSS (Boston’s Original Slow Session) and there are three weekly sessions sponsored by us.

You can get more info and the tune list at www.slowplayers.org/BOSS/

Monday night - Greenbriar Pub, Brighton
7:00 - 9:00 - slow session.
9:00 - 12:00 - regular Comhaltas (fast) session with Larry Reynolds and family.
These are big sessions with often 40+ musicians attending. There are usually one or two pipers who show up. I don’t take my pipes out in public yet, but stick to my concertina.

Tuesday night - The Skellig Pub, Waltham (owned by the same people who own The Burren in Somerville)
7:00 - 9:00 - slow session.
9:00 - 12:00 - regular Comhaltas (fast) session with Larry Reynolds and family.

Thursday night - Solas Pub, Lenox Hotel, Boston
5:30 - 7:30 - slow session

Your other option is The Pipers Gathering in North Hero Vermont, 8/23 - 8/25. It’s about 5 hours from Boston but it is a real nice ride through the mountains of Vermont. Check out the website www.pipersgathering.org
