FS 8 key Rosewood Metzler, repaired headjoint keys are sterl

Dear Fipplers

Here I am again with another flute for sale.

Periodically these Metzlers come up, and they sell for between 1200 and 1800 dollars USD. the 1200 range seems to be the nickel keyed ones, mine however has sterling keys.

I would like 1500, however feel free to make realistic offers over $1000 and I will consider them all.

Sadly this is a discovery by a keyless player who can’t bloody handle keys!!!

thanks and email for pics

I wonder if it is this one: http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=10183&item=7303432989&rd=1

It would seem that they also come up for $ 430
Never mind. You won’t need to have burdened yourself for too long with those awful key thingies if you can find someone to take such a thing off your hands at such a handsome profit.
I have always tended to avoid Metzlers, though a real one made around 1800 was good work.
The nickel mounted Eb I mentined was OK for a cheapie, but thankfully not mine.
( Is it really rosewood ? That would be pretty odd, bet not impossible in lower class English work )

If “messing” is correct, this flute was purchased by demon_piper for 225 pounds (USD $433 +/-) and d_p is now asking USD $1500 for it? Wow, the profit margin!!

Well lets say it needed a little work. A new ring on the bottom (got to love custom jewelers costs!) And that crack repair was far less attractive than it could have been! Hence a little redo.

Anyway, the price includes some profit, can’t say I can figure out how much, after shipping, charges on arrival and repairs.

Still, nice sound, and a good flute, it is one of the earlier ones. The later ones, once nickel silver was being employed, were lower quality, however this one is nicely in tune and the key work is well done.

Sorry gents, barring a good offer, i think I’m keeping it now

I guess Metzlers were all over the board as far as quality, the one I bought from Dave Migoya is pretty darned good player, and only made better by the custom head joint I had Hammy make for it:

I’m glad to hear you still have the Metzler! I think what makes it even nicer is to have its entire life history from the moment it was purchased! Good ole Mr Pope…and his decendants…for keeping it alive

Glad it’s still being played.

Looks like Demon Piper is more interested in his flute’s future than its past !

Yeah, apparently they are all over the map. I heard demos online of one with and without a custom headjoint, to be honest I like the original one more but to each their own. It did sound like the newer one spoke more easily though.

Ok, this 8 key thing is a pain in the butt, I can’t figure out how to adjust the keys, or get my fingers around them. The heck with chromatic!

I will sell it for my cost $600 USD, just to be rid of the pain in the butt, and I will be smart enough never to get another keyed flute!

First taker wins, and I reccommend getting a Desi Seery Delrin Headjoint for it, as this seems to work better than the headjoint it has on there, still Rosewood and silver, and with the different headjoint and the keys held shut, nice tune, and as far as I can tell, in tune. This one is just a bit short of Pratten power and tone.

E-mail me for pics, or check that auction thread up earlier, if you would like to buy it, make sure you want to move your fingers around keys.

You should make a new listing for this flute, offering it at the bargain price of $600.
