Fred Parcells' "the reel book" - Wow!

Fred Parcells was part of the “Black 47” band.

$10 membership accesses a boatload of transcriptions and clips from a bunch of great recordings. Looks to be a heck of a resource! Anybody used this?

Apparently it’s best accessed through IE, not Mozilla, though.

I’m a member. It’s an interesting collection, all scanned transcriptions, and Fred seems like a nice guy. I helped him ID a few of his Gan Ainm tunes a while back.

One might go blind but the more the merrier. And for $10? Seems worth supporting. Of course, me, I never use sheet music. Nyuk.

MT, do any of the transcriptions include the chords?

Not only was he a part of Black 47, but he still is a part of Black 47. BTW- Anybody who’s in the Upstate New York area, Black 47 is playing at the Bridgewater in Kingston on April 5th.

Mostly not, Annie, as far as I can tell from a random sampling. Just melody lines, but very detailed. Fred has his own conventions for writing out ornaments, but they’re easy enough to figure out.

Ah well, then, I think I’ll leave it to the fiddling and fluting members of the crew to see if they want to subscribe. As others have already noted - if I need more tunes to learn, I’ve got at least 4 books full of ones I don’t yet know.

Thanks!
