Just thought I would share a website with you all. It is http://sniff.numachi.com/~rickheit/dtrad/ It allows you to download Irish tunes in ABC format, Songwright, Postscript, Lilypond, or Midi. It also allows you to download the “Key” you want to play the tune in. For the beginners it includes the notation. Just thought I would share.
Yup, it’s a great site when it’s up and when the files are usable.
Yup that websiote has been in my Favorites list for about 18 months lol… You sort of discovered that page like Leoff Ericson Discovered America… How do you “discover” something that already has people living there???
It certainly would be a Herculean task to discover a web site that had never been found before by anyone else, since the author would more than likely have seen it at least once.
Automatically generated pages don’t count, because then the Leif Ericsson analogy would be absurd.
Cyfiawnder, so you must suppose that Brendan has been there before?
Another Digital Tradition mirror site. If you don’t want to be dependent on the web, you can also DL the DT database to your own harddrive.
But this one has whistle tab! And it’s smart enough to transpose the tunes.
What a cool and useful site … now all I need is to think of some tunes to search for ![]()
I used to use this site quite a bit, though in quite a number of cases the whistle tabs were incomplete, as tunes went out of the whistle’s range. And then, some months back, the various files became increasingluy unavailable.
There’s a freeware, called Tablature Karaoke, that will turn any MIDI file with the melody at the top into tabs for all sorts of instruments, including whistle.
