I thought they only made Lon Dubhs in D. That Bleazey is really tempting me…

Shortly after this was posted, I got a PM from a regular contributor who said they thought this new user Larsenes might be the same person as a previous user who had developed a bit of a bad reputation selling whistles on this board. I had no idea of this were the case and really couldn’t remember, so I temporarily suspended the thread and just asked the new user if he had sold whistles previously on the board. Larsenes responded with a quick series of PMs containing rather vehement protestations of innocence–far beyond, as far as I know, any actual accusations. He demanded to confront his accuser, or something like that. So, being prone to believe claims of innocence (I’m a Democrat, after all) I moved the thread back into activity but accidentally (really) left it locked for several hours. I just got an email from this individual asking me to delete the thread and the username. The email to me featured a photograph of Senator Joseph McCarthy and, now that I look at this photo, you know, I can sort of see a resemblance between Joe and myself.

Anyway, I have no idea who this individual nor any idea of how he’ll conduct business with the folks that agreed to buy his whistles.

That is all.

It’s not my policy to share PMs and emails with permission, but I’m making an exception. I’m just a little concerned because there’s some money at stake here.

Dale to Larsenes

Hello.

A couple of things. If you’ll read the commercial guidelines, you’ll see that you need to ask people to respond to you off-board when selling whistles.

Also, I got an email from someone who believes you might have sold whistles previously on the board under a different username. Please let me know if this is the case.

Thanks very much,

Dale

I am a new member as of yesterday. I try to ask them to reply but off line and then they do.

ALso, I would like to face my accusor. This is at the least bizzarre. I don’t even know a soul on your sight. I sign up for one day and I am accused of being a crook. That doesn’t stand parallel with the politics represented by the sight. This is entirely unbelieveable. Let them tell the circumstances. I started playing the whistle a month ago and bought about six whistles, using your sight, and made a decision about which ones to keep. I didn’t want to return them to the maker as they said I could do because that would be a loss for them. So I sell them, play the whistle for a month, join the chat sight for one day, haven’t communicate with a soul on your sight, and I am accused of being a crook. What a waya to begin a passion. WHat a wonderful community of players. I was a mandolin player for a long time and was a member of the Mandolin Cafe sight. THe members would talk to one another. The accusing member would email me with their concerns. This tattling without substance is again bizzare!

And one fnal point. I financially was able to do what I alway dreamed of doing. Buy the whistles I thought were the best according to the research available on you sight. I played them for two weeks and made my decision without hurting any builder and I get accused of some kind of crookery. I don’t even understand what the claims are about. Did I cheat someone? Did I sell something I never have owned? WHat is my supposed other identity? I thought I was joining a community of learners and was excited about reading others experiences as I begin playing the whistle. WIthin 24 hours of being a member I am accused of some supposed wrong doing to someone who will not confront me and who is supported by you by putting me on hold and addressing it to me. WHat am I supposed to say in answering hearsay claims.? THe situation is left to your judgement and you don’t even know me. I suspect you know the accusor. So how do I defend myself? I read all of your political images and statements on the sight (which were part of the reason I joined) and the morality that is represented is in contradiction with this situation.

Dale to Larsenes #2:

Do relax. It could well be a misunderstanding. Please consider the value of limiting your protests. I’ll happily restore your thread.

That’s the sum total of my exchanges with this individual. I’ve left the spelling errors intact.

I just got off the phone with the seller of these whistles. These are all key of D whistles, BTW. He corrected the information about the key being D and not C a little ways down the thread, but didn’t edit the original post.

The Burke and Sindt are both sold. Come to think of it, now the Lon Dubh and Bleazy are, too.

I had a very pleasant conversation with him. He really is an actual person who is who he says he is, and he really does have the whistles he says he has. We discussed how they came into his possession, how the transaction with John Sindt came about, the fact that he used to live in Greeley, Colorado a block away from Whistle and Drum where he got the Lon Dubh in person from Blaine Chastain, etc.

I’ll post to this thread again when the whistles arrive.

In the meantime, I propose that we not give too much weight to the fireworks that have transpired. I get the impression that the gentleman had had a pretty rough day. After talking to him, I’m completely comfortable making this purchase, and as I said, I’ll post again when the whistles arrive.

Best wishes,
Jerry

Just thought I’d throw in my 3.377 cents in the matter (keeping in mind that I take a neutral stance on most disputes and such). I am a bit of a psychology buff (thank you mother  ), and I can tell a lot about a person from what they say, or in this case, write. Clearly, Lars was upset with the whole matter. Who wouldn’t be??? To be wrongly accused of something, its…unnatural. To whomever the person who started the whole matter is, I have nothing against you, but please accept that you were mistaken. You may have an internal conflict accepting that you were wrong, but what’s done is done. When it comes to buying from someone, it’s all a matter of trust. If you don’t trust a seller, then by all means avoid them. Just don’t interfere in one’s endeavors to earn a “little” money, and to give someone some fine whistles. To borrow from Wethern’s law of Suspended Judgment: Assumption is the mother of all screw-ups. Forgive and forget, that sums everything up in a nutshell.

Oh Lars, things sure didn’t get to a good start with you. But please don’t let all this discourage you from continuing communications with C&F. We’re always happy to meet new people, and trust that everyone can put all this behind them. The best of luck to you finishing off your sale with the Busman. Happy whistling!

I do not see anything strange here.
I played a Howard low D for several months and then bought three low d whistles to try at the same time. I liked the Copeland, Burke and, Overton very much but I wanted to play more than collect them. So I played them for my wife and it was not easy for her to pick one over the other by sound. I did not tell her the price of each so that would be out of the dicission. She voted for the Overton and I sent the other two back.
What I do see is pragmatic.

I guess my issue here is this: If you look at my original PM to this gentlemen, I asked him if he had done business on the board under a different username. That’s hardly a case of being accused of larceny (no bad near-pun intended). I resent the responses I got to my question, including the McCarthy jab. And, frankly, I didn’t initially have a particular reason to actually worry that this person might be a problem. But his responses appeared to me to be as clear a case of protesting too much as I could imagine.

I guess I also wonder if his responses to me were prompted more by PMs he got from other users.

Anyway, based on Jerry’s experience and good judgement, I’m back to assuming that there wasn’t much to this to begin with.

And incidentally, note that I never deleted the thread and I didn’t, as he requested, delete his log-in.

Dale, you had a very good sight on this matter..

Oh, my goodness! Accurate right down to the eyebrows and the bags under his eyes!

Good grief. Can we just chalk this up to random brain-farts?

Dale has been the most moderate of moderators compared to many others, trying to keep things legal and fun. He seems very unwilling to take rash action without facts. He also has every right to be especially wary of commercial posts, (I assume) for reasons of liability. Heck, we even have to watch our P’s and Q’s (Posts and Quotes) in Canada.

Thank-you to Dale, Jerry, Lars and others for sorting this out.

LARSENES, welcome to the board!

The Bleazy and Lon Dubh arrived today, right on schedule.

Thanks!

Best wishes,
Jerry

sorry you got off to a rough start…your protests were, I think, a little over the top…(mind you I would probably have had a screaming tantrum had it been me) but Dale was really only being, rightly, cautious on behalf of the members. It’s over and you are very very welcome to the Board…it’s the tops…Best Les.
