Irritated, Your Damn Right!/Locked by Moderator

It all started with a post that went something like: WANTED LOW F. After receiving numerous offers from sellers regarding a Low F, I finally went with a Chieftain Brass Low F (No other reason except I love the way the brass whistles sound and that I own several Chieftains). The transaction was done through Paypal. I always have used Paypal because, well I had never had a problem. The money transaction through Paypal was conducted without a hitch and the seller acknowledged that the money had been received and that the whistle would be sent in a couple of days. A couple of days past and I pm’d him regarding the status (It went something like, can you send me the tracking number). Several days past and finally the PM is returned stating that the seller had been busy and hadn’t sent the whistle yet, but that it would go out that day. (Ok, I understand, people get busy, children get sick and there is always work). So, I replied ok, and when you send it please provide me with a tracking number. 11 days have past since I paid for the whistle, I have PM’ed the seller everyday (sometimes multiple times a day) requesting a status report. Still no reply or whistle ,so am I irritated, your damn right.

I have bought and sold over 50 whistles without a hitched. After receiving funds you can bet you ass that if you bought the whistle from me it was in the mail 24 hours later like I promised with the tracking number. All I have asked for is the same courtesy. But not with this transaction and you know, thats a shame. Do I think I got taken for a ride, I sure hope not.

Want to know who I made the transaction with so you don’t run into the same problem just email or PM me. You can bet you ass you won’t have to wait for a reply.

Irritated, YOUR DAMN RIGHT!

EDIT-Ask KDMARTINKY who it was he will tell you. It is worth knowing people need to watch out for others. If he does not get the whistle then pay pal will step forward. But it is a shame as I have bought a few whistles and they have all came in great time like KDMARTINKYs up till know.

Not everybody checks the board everyday! I have been known (ok, nobody noticed, whatever) to go for months at a time…

Use EMAIL!

I have tracked down the sellers business address, but seller has not replied to those either.

That is sad, because I have had nothing but positive experiences on this Board. People have actually sent me whistles to try out before I sent money (and these were O’Riordans and Copelands at great prices). Others have sent flutes and whistles for me to try out just to see if I’d like them without contemplation of a sale. I’ve done likewise with never a hitch.

I really hope this works out and that there is some kind of reasonable explanation.

Best,

Philo

This is a major drag, for sure. I’ve bought, sold or traded whistles with more than 35 C&Fers without a hitch. I guess I’ve been fortunate.

I hope you used a credit card. If you used a credit card you can get the charge removed. If you used a PayPal balance or an instant withdrawal or eCheck from your bank then PayPal won’t do much of anything to help you unless the seller that you sent the PayPal payment to has a top-rated PayPal account with the transaction insurance (this would have shown up on the PayPal site when you were making the payment).

That’s why when I use PayPal I insist on using a credit card unless I know I’m dealing with a large, established retail business with a reputation to protect, or the transaction shows up in PayPal as an insured transaction.

Also, you have to be very alert when using PayPal, every time you use it to make a payment it will default to an instant payment from your bank account - you have to manually select a credit card (and then when you select a card they try to get you to change your mind).

Personally, I think it’s very disengenous of PayPal to almost trick you into making a payment from the least redressable (is that a word) means.

That said, I use PayPal all the time and I’ve never been burned - but you have to be on your toes because PayPal is in the business of making money, not protecting you.

John

Sorry this happened. If you’ll let me know who you’re having the problem with, I’ll appeal personally to the individual. Email me please.

Dale

I’ve pm’d the seller and asked him to quickly resolve this matter. If he fails to do so, I’ll be happy to out him on the forum.

Dale

Sounds to me like he may be delaying answering you out of spite. It’s too bad but you probably made him upset with your tactics. I for one would probably be a pest too but we’ve got the right, right. My wife on the other hand always gives the other person the benefit of the doubt. It seems to work out with her tactics all the time. I hate when she’s right like that, it’s so…positve.

Jon:

I have more patience then a lot of folks…but if you send me the funds today, you can bet the whistle is in the mail tomorrow and you’ll have a tracking number in your hands that sameday it was mailed. If this individual is doing this out of spite…well I am not going to even address that.

I have thought of every reason that I can think of that the seller hasn’t responded…i do hope that its all a misunderstanding…is that positive enough for you?

Easy there Keith, no offense meant just a perspective that’s probably not correct. I do hope you resolve this quickly for your peace of mind. I agree with getting the product in the mail as soon as the funds hit. I’m really on your side.

By the way Keith you wouldn’t speak to me in a condescending tone in person please don’t on the board. I apologize for suggesting that you weren’t positive I was really only talking about my wife and not about your approach. I’m sure you’ve handled this situation very well.

Jon:
I am sorry for the remark Jon, it was actullay uncalled for…I believe you may have received some of my frustration with my earlier reply.

keith

Good. Friends then. Let’s kick this whistle holding punk’s butt.

you bet. And if you like you can return that frustration I sent you for a full refund.

I let KDMARTINKY know in a pm what was going on, before I could get a chance to send the whistle I was called in to work and sent on an emergency trip to LA and didn’t get back until tonight. generally I would send an item within 24 hours of payment but when you’re working upwards of 80 hours a week it’s tough to get to a post office when you leave for work at 6am and don’t get home until midnight on most weekdays, I did try to find a UPS store that was open late but came up empty handed.

also, I don’t usually get a chance to check the board more than a couple times a week, you will always get a response from a pm that you send me, sending five or six messages a day doesn’t help.

I have saturday off to recuperate (if they made me come in I’d quit and they know that), I’ll be at the post office first thing in the morning.

Ditto-- I’ve sent whistles out to people before I’ve been paid and never once been burned. I’ve also bought second hand whistles from board members and have always received exactly what I was supposed to.
The one time I sent a whistle out and then had a hard time contacting the buyer about payment, it later turned out that there was indeed a good personal reason why he was not responding to my inquiries.

There’s a quote by Abe Lincoln (I’m told) that goes something like “I’d rather be an optimist and be proven wrong occasionally, than be a pessimist and be proven wrong…”. A much happier way to live!

Illuminatus99…I can understand how exhausting your job must be. HOWEVER…when you got called to go to LA on an emergency business errand…it would only have taken maybe 3 minutes to send KDMARTINKY a fast email saying “Emergency trip out of town, sorry for the delay, will mail as soon as I return which should be…”

I am not trying to be a smartass, really. I think that many times we do not think or easily forget. When you sell, or are in the process of selling something to someone thru the mail you have to keep it uppermost in your mind. The person doesn’t know you and has no way of what is going on in your life. So they are just sitting and waiting and wondering. And getting upset especially when emails and pms go unanswered.

Jessie and I ran into a similar problem awhile back. I was selling a whistle and I got a brief email from Jessie saying “I would like it.” I answered asking for details…address, etc and for 48 hours got no reply. I didn’t realize it was OUR Jessie, thought it was a newbie who had a change of heart. I was getting many requests at that point so I went ahead and sold it to someone else. It turned out Jessie had left within hours of sending me that email to go to a weekend jewelry show. When she got back she was understandably upset and I felt bad. But I told her the same thing…you should have thought to type me a fast email…“away for weekend, will finish deal as soon as I get back. Thanks.” She agreed.

So, I think what I’m trying to say is that using excuses like I got busy don’t really wash. If we are going to buy and sell whistles to each other on this forum we need to be very responsible. Gosh, look at Ebay, no excuses there.

Just my two cents worth. Glad you are back and matter will be resolved.

I just received a PM from david (illluminus99). It is my hope that my brand new chieftain brass low F will be mailed out today (7/25/04) as promised by him. Hopefully, it was all a misunderstanding and water under the bridge. Stay tuned and I’ll let you know how it comes out.
