Finding Tutorial Tunes Online

(Cross-posted at the Session and in the whistle forum.)

I’ve created a custom Google search engine for finding tutorial tunes online, e.g., when you want to learn “Geese in the Bog” and you need an MP3 of someone playing the tune to listen to and learn from. You can find the search engine at:

http://www.google.com/coop/cse?cx=000459911131320826227%3Apr71mpimhd0

You just type in the name of the tune and hit return. Currently I’m searching this list of sites:

I’ve tried to select sites that would be most useful for finding a learning version of a tune. If anyone knows of other tutorial tune sources that I could include, please let me know. (Please, no comments on the quality of the playing at any of the sites, I think everyone understands that you take pot-luck on the web.)

I hope you’ll find this useful.

Cool, thanks for including my site in your search list!

Twice, in fact. Keep up the good work, Michael.

Whoops, I’ll have to clean that up (although I don’t think it actually affects the search). I appreciate the tunes that both of you have put up, I should be the one saying thanks!

Jason, Here is the google search I was telling you about. Greg

Aha! Looks like a good resource. Preferring to learn by ear, myself, I’ll be checking it out, no doubt.

what a great idea! thanks for creating this, michael!

Good resource. Thanks. I’m sure you’ll refine it. The problem with many tunes is that they are spelled a thousand different ways and have other names. e.g. Farrell O’Gara.

thesession.org is my primary source for tune hunting. iTunes is also good.
