Tutorial Tunes Online

Michael Eskin posted (in another thread) a link to a page with tune recordings from the San Diego session suitable for learning new tunes. I thought I’d post a few other similar links that I know about.

One good source is from Siamsa in Montreal (Brother Steve’s organization).

One of the Denver sessions put together this collection:

http://www.slowplayers.org/SCTLS/playlist.html

with nice slow MP3s of a number of tunes (primarily reels).

Another very nice collection comes from the Whistle Shop session in Bloomington, IL:

http://www.thewhistleshop.com/slow/session.htm

it has “pre-slowed” versions of the tunes.

The page Michael posted is:

http://irishwindow.com/wst_page7.html

Those links are all specifically for learning. There used to be an excellent collection of tutorial tunes at the Murphy Roche (CCE Chicago) site but it has recently been removed.

Some other sites which have mp3s of tunes – but not necessarily intended for learning – include Clips & Snips, a similar site from Session.org, and a couple of others:

http://worldfiddlemusic.co.uk/mightycraiconline/
http://www.gregdahms.ca/Tunes/
http://tuneaweek.backstagerogers.com/

If all else fails, you can often find a tune by Googling for the tune and mp3, e.g., “Ship in Full Sail” mp3, although you may have to look through a page or two of results.
