Tradlessons.com (Monthly commercial post)

Hi y’all,

Its been a long time since I’ve posted an ad for my site, I’m sure there are many new members here who might be interested.

Please come visit my free tune teaching video site:

http://www.tradlessons.com

Currently, there are 57 whistle tunes on the site. Also videos on Uilleann pipes, wooden flute, anglo concertina, and drop-D tuned guitar.

As of this week, we’ve had nearly 250,000 video views.

I hope to be adding a bunch more tunes in the coming weeks.

Cheers and thanks,

Michael

Thanks to you, Michael!
Your videos are so nice, and very helpful. I particularly love 'em.

Regards,
Martin

Michael, if you’re choosing between tunes, you might want to consider checking my tutorial tune search engine:

http://www.google.com/coop/cse?cx=000459911131320826227%3Apr71mpimhd0

to see what coverage your various candidate tunes have out there on the Internets. For example, there don’t seem to be any versions of “Mist On the Mountain” out there, so it would be more helpful to have you cover that than (say) another version of “Road to Lisdoonvarna”.

Obviously do what you want (it’s a great resource either way) but that’s my thought.

Thanks for all you hard work. This site and your whistle this are a great help when I am trying to learn tunes.
My suggestion for next tune is the Rainy Day.

That’s a great resource, thanks! Usually I select tunes based on what people request, with first choice given to those who help support the site, but sometimes I’ll just post whatever I happen to be working on at the moment because that’s what I’m most proficient playing that particular day.

Cheers,

Michael

I hadn’t been back in a while, Michael. Thanks for the reminder!
I’m learning a lot from your DropD lessons. I got the John Doyle DVD at your
suggestion, and it’s great, but I can’t keep up well enough yet to get much out
of it. It’s good to have your videos with a better camera angle on the left hand
(and especially the slowed-down second time through!!!) so I can get the
hang of it. Until I have internalized the chord shapes, it’s tough to follow them
quickly.

I’m curious about the contexts in which you’d use the walkup and walkdown
patterns. Would the Dmaj walkdown fit into an average D reel like, say,
The Concertina, or Dick Gossips?

EDIT: Oh, I just realized that the low D walkdown is what you used in the
first D Reel backing demo. (I can’t remember that tune name for the life
of me.)

I don’t know where should I go to request a tune, but if it’s possible I’ll ask you for “Bag Of Spuds” (this one: http://www.thesession.org/tunes/display/579) since I’m learning it and I’d like very much to hear you playing it.

Martin

Thanks Michael, this has been a great site for me.

In case you haven’t heard this one Martin:

Or this fantastic version on the pipes by Louise from Walton’s school of music:

Yes! I had already heard that. Anyways, thanks a lot for your concern!!

Martin

Just edited and added another one after your post there Martin. It’s pipes but you can get a lot from it for the whistle.

Excellent!
Thank you very much!, I didn’t know that version, it’s very nice. I’ll try to play along with that recording when I can play it a bit better. I’m working on the tune since yesterday, it’s a fantastic reel, very funny!

Martin

P.S.: By the way.. isn’t that an irish flute?

Thanks Michael, love the site!
